Getting your prank call album(s) available for sale has never been easier. This is not 2000 anymore. No longer are you at the mercy of finding a brick and mortar distributor and being at the mercy of actually getting paid by that distributor. No longer do you have to manufacture CD's and guess if you are over or under manufacturing. No longer do you have to ship CD's off to a distributor. In fact these days, even though people are still buying CD's, I do not recommend manufacturing any CD's even for direct order sales through your home website. Digital distribution is the way to go.

Simply set up an account with Catapult distribution if you expect low demand or are unsure of demand at iTunes and Amazon.com's digital music store. Catapult has a one time set up fee and they take a percentage of your sales.

If you later discover that you have higher demand then you can always switch to Tunecore. Tunecore has a higher annual fee while pocketing zero percentage of sales. I have been with Tunecore for about 10 years and they have delivered as promised.

Keep in mind that Tunecore and Catapult also distribute to all kinds of other sites like Spotify, Rdio, Rhapsody, Deezer, eMusic, Slacker, Groove and a zillion other "stores" that I liken to Pirate Bay paying peanuts. The problem is that these are on-demand sites. People can listen to your entire album or pick and choose songs -- only they aren't paying iTunes or Amazon prices. That's a problem if you are an established artist with a following! Do you want to give your music away like that? Maybe if you are an unheard of new artist with little sales. Since I already generated a missive buzz through Howard Stern and Crank Yankers on Comedy Central I opted out of all of these so-called "stores". As far as I'm concerned these stores only serve to cannibalize my sales.

Tunecore and Catapult also collect royalties for YouTube if you opt in, usually by paying a nominal one time fee of perhaps $20. I recommend allowing YouTube plays of some of your tracks even if you have large digital album sales numbers. You can control what gets posted on YouTube and what doesn't by filling out a take-down notice on YouTube. I allow about 1/4 to 1/3 of my album tracks to remain posted on YouTube as a form of promotion.

Now what about Internet radio stations? I am all for actual radio station or Internet radio stations like Pandora Radio because they are not on-demand sites. In fact one prank call radio station on Pandora airs one of my calls about every other track that's played. But it's purely random. A listener can't decide to listen to track 5 off Customer Service Disasters or listen an entire album in its entirety on demand.

SoundExchage.org is a non-profit rights organization that collects royalties from digital radio stations including Sirius Radio. SoundExchage.org even has a team of lawyers that will fight for all of the artists that it collects royalties for. They actually found me and I was glad they did! Once signed up, all you do is watch checks come in every quarter. It doesn't get any easier.

Willems is so strong and passionate that is comes shining through loud and clear, and you know he is a true believer in the savior. Willems proclaims, “No one compares to you, oh Lord./You are the King!” and when he sings this, you understand what devotion to and love for the Lord are. His music is powerful and very moving. The band plays with all of their God given talents with precision and perfection and the entire collaboration is excellent. The shots of Mr. Willems standing in fields, by rivers, and by trees just praising in sight and sound the glory of God. You can really tell his love is real and this is what the King of kings has made possible – a man’s ability to make such beautiful and touching music along with a very likeable video presentation.

Black Rabbit - An Autumn Musical Feast

Black Rabbit Festival, as the first Chinese Bi-city music festival, was held last weekend in Beijing and Shanghai. Nearly 30 bands and artists joined the festival, including both top international and domestic bands, providing music fans from all over the world with a brilliant music show.
One of the most eye-catching performances was Hanggai, a band from Mongolia. They wore Mongolian costumes, and they used many different instruments, ranging from Mongolian, to electronic guitar, bass, etc. They combined Mongolian music and rock music in a perfect way. Starting with a song dedicated to Genghis Khan, they immediately caught all the attention. The vocalist brought us several songs that are related to grassland in an extremely passionate way, and he also said that it reminded him of his hometown when he saw the grassland, blue sky, clouds, and breeze here in suburban shanghai. The exquisite guitar skills, enthusiastic singing style of the vocalist and guitarist, and the deep and exotic voice of the matouqinist were all very impressive. And as usual, they were drinking beer while giving the show.
Hebe, the beautiful singer from Taiwan, was on stage afterwards. She totally overthrew her usually calm and sweet image by crazily dancing and shaking her orange hair while singing a Beatles song. Different from other indie music artists playing here, Hebe belongs to the league of mainstream pop singers. She also encouraged her fans to pay more attention to Chinese indie music. She gave her fans a great show and sang eleven songs in a row. As a tribute to Hebe, her song called 'Love' was performed in a remixed version by DJ Otakrew on the adjacent NBA STREET JAM stage.

Hip hop artist N-O’s video Mother” is a dramatic and emotionally charged anthem to a mom who passed away too soon and all the hurt ad memories that are left behind. The video is well produced with crisp, clear images portraying sadness and grief, as well as pictures of mothers caring and praying for their children. Paced at an appropriately slow tempo, the song, which features Sydney B, has impact and meaning as the vocals get right to the point: “I miss my mother, It’s so hard/I know she’s in a better place, But I can’t stop the tears/Can’t stop the tears/” and “I called my father/He told me my mother just died/I’m trying to be strong, I’m hurting inside/So I cover up/I’m smiling, telling jokes/ But the day my mother died was the day my heart broke/.” This is a beautiful and loving memorial to a woman who was obviously a wonderful mom, and a reminder to us all to cherish our mothers while they’re still here with us.

Popular rock-band We Are The Ocean today announced that they’re launching a special promotion for their fans at the Reading festival through the Frequent Fans program on Flowd, the music lovers’ social network. The Frequent Fans promotion for Reading is a result of a successful trial run by We Are The Ocean to promote their Live & Unplugged acoustic show on 18th August.
The promotion through Flowd of We Are The Ocean’s recent show at Bush Hall drove attendees to check-in to the gig, with the first five people to check-in being invited to join the band for their sound check. Using Flowd, We Are The Ocean built a personal connection with their super-fans. Every person that checked in using Flowd was also gifted with a free poster that was collected from the merchandise desk inside the venue. In total, 7.5% of attendees used Flowd to check in to the gigs, and 76% of those collected their free poster. This promotion helped to drive sales of merchandise with 31% of people collecting their free poster going on to buy additional merchandise, with an average of £16 spent by each person. Rock Naadam on C1 TV - Boys Climbing Ropes and Moon Tyrant

In July 2011, Shanghai local rock bands Boys Climbing Ropes, The Horde and Moon Tyrant went to Ulaanbaatar and Darkhan, Mongolia to perform for the first Rock Naadam tour. The tour, which brought China-based bands to Mongolia for the first time, followed with dates in Ningbo, Nanjing and Shanghai featuring great Mongolian rock bands A-Sound and The Lemons. That tour was unique in that it not only drew more fans to Mogolian rock music, but also served as an exchange with China's rock scene.
On July 8th, Boys Climbing Ropes and Moon Tyrant performed on "The Big Break" TV show in Mongolia's nationwide channel C1 TV that has become well known for broadcasting music performances. Here are two video clips from the show, in which Moon Tyrant and Boys Climbing Ropes were playing.

Pet Conspiracy 2011 Summer World Tour - China, Switzerland, Singapore, Malaysia

Beijing electro-punk quartet Pet Conspiracy (宠物同谋) are in in the middle of their 2011 Summer Tour, having just performed at Singapore's Baybeats Music Festival. The worldwide month-long tour kicked off on Aug. 8th in Qingdao, China at the the Ark Beach Music Festival, followed by performances at the Lethargy Festival and Rote Frabrik on August 12-13 in Zurich, Switzerland. The schlock and dance punk band will then jet off for a gig at The Annexe Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, followed by closing concerts back in China at Hangzhou's Code Space and Shanghai's Himalaya Festival (August 27-28 respectively).
Pet Conspiracy recently released their latest full-length album Chongwu Tongmou (宠物同谋). The quartet (Huzi, Edo, Mary & Fiona) first introduced the band's new sound to Beijing fans at Tango 3F (formerly Starlive) on June 4th and in Shanghai at the Mercedes-Benz Arena's Muse Mixing Room on June 25th. Online Chinese video network Niurenku created a short video expose maching clips from their Beijing release party and the music video to their single "Beyond."

David Cash - "City of Angels"

David Cash's "City of Angels," is a sobering look at the war that's going on in the inner city neighborhoods of LA that people tend to ignore because of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. With hard hitting, thought provoking lyrics like "It's a long way from heaven/In the city where the Angel's from/From the streets to Hollywood dreams/In the city of LA/," Cash reminds us that in the place nicknamed the "City of Angels," it's far from heavenly as many continue to fight day to day just to survive the mean streets of LA far from the spotlight of celebs.
The video is simple, but effective and gets its message across with a look at the "other" side of LA where life is much different than many of u can imagine. With a throng of peeps from his streets, Cash's video doesn't add any extras that aren't needed to distract from the main message. Though the song itself has a great beat and is musically solid, it makes the viewer/listener want to think more than dance, accomplishing its purpose with excellence and simplicity in a well -conceived video.

BLACK DAWN, Long Island's Hardest Alternative or Metal Rock Band?

BLACK DAWN is a group of four musicians, a faithful road manager, an ever-growing legion of fans (ranging from rowdy adolescents to toothless old men and women), a respect and appreciation for the sound of silence, and a suitcase full of aggressive and passionate hard-edged music.
The original incarnation of BLACK DAWN was created in 1992 when Tom Kelly hooked up with a local Long Island bass player, and once formed the band decided to name themselves as appropriately as they could, utilizing a name that deep down described their heavy, morbid, and intense music quintessentially. "We needed a name that is not happy, because the songs are not happy. This was the most unhappy name we could think of. For us, it implies an absence of hope. I suppose that, in a way, it recognizes those who are in a bad situation and know that they are not going to get out of it."
Originally intending to have the band be a hobby, over the years it has evolved into a very serious affair. "At first, it was probably just to be able to use and improve whatever musical ability we have. The shows would be a chance for us to party with our friends. We've kept the band going all this time because it is our art. It is what we would rather be doing instead of our jobs."

Oil Boom Releases Black Waxy EP

Drawing inspiration from a generous helping of American roots music and contemporary indie rock, Oil Boom mines the past-meets-present trail blazed by groups as diverse as The Gun Club and Two Gallants. The Dallas trio, comprised of two Oklahoma refugees (Brian Whitten, Ryan Taylor) and a St. Louis expatriate (Dugan Connors), has released a new six-song EP, Black Waxy, on May 3rd, 2011. Rick Denzien’s “R A D I A T E” is a mid to slightly fast tempo, very upbeat, uplifting, and enjoyable video and track. With a voice reminiscent of John Anderson or Phil Collins, and a musical style very close to R.E.M., Denzien hits the mark with “R A D I A T E.” In this soft rock number, Denzien beautifully harmonizes lyrics that tell the story of radiating love – the kind that comes from deep inside the heart. It’s a pure and touching reminder of what we should all be doing – seeing the good and being the good; expecting wonder, and radiating love to one another. An excellent band with a full sound captures you with their top notch performance, complementing each other perfectly. The guitar break and solo are excellent, and the song has a positive vibe that will make music lovers of any genre appreciate it greatly.

They have been bringing stadium sized songs and great harmonies together with a full on, utterly engaging and energetic live performance at shows in Taichung, Tainan, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Kunshan, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Bangkok and Singapore to name but a few!
The band's influences include Jimmy Eat World, Def Leppard, Carpark North, Cheap Trick and The Wildhearts. Goober Gun headed off on their tour of Asia in October 2010 playing multiple tours of Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and China. Two brand new songs, 'Rock N Bangkok' and 'You Are Alien' will released for the tour, along with a video for 'Rock N Bangkok', directed by Carlos Boellinger.
Goober Gun come from the same stable as Melodramas, The Lost Souls Club, Will And The People and complete the "Sound of the C" musical invasion that has seen all four of C-managements stable in Asia, in the last 12 months!
