well, there are a lot of animations that I am planning to do. it's a game involving combat and different movement abilities so it'll probably be a lot. some of them i was working on until i could find an animator so we could like split the work. lmk what you think and if you want i can share more details about the project too
Made a new update to my game, and was looking for some feedback on how the new mechanics, setup and UI feel to use. As always, I'm grateful for any feedback even negative ones. I want to know what works in the game and what doesn't. Controls are on the itch page: https://noel-k.itch.io/project-open-the-portal
Hello I am looking for feedback on the latest addition to my game. I recently added some items to the game and while i am interested if they are fun or not, i am looking to see if it is easy to use them and trying to understand how some players might tend to use them and why. The level itself is the same for now, except I added two item spawners in the level. One near the beginning and one near the end. In this test level, feel free to collect as many items as you like before you start the fight by attacking any of the enemies.
Right now, there are a total of 7 distinct items

There is no in game explanation so i will do a quick rundown right now:
EMP - paralyzes all enemies currently on screen for a few seconds
Wall - places a physical barrier in front of enemies for a few seconds
Sword - kill/damages any enemies that it touches
Flash grenade - blinds enemies for a few seconds
Bomb - kills/damages all enemies within the blast radius
hp restore - heals hp
energy restore - restores energy
To switch between the current item in your inventory press (H). The item in the first (leftmost) slot is the one the will be used. To use an item press (U).
I would also appreciate any other feedback that you may have about say the energy levels or the movement, etc. Also, if anyone out there is in the mood, if anyone would like to record and send a clip of it to me, I would really appreciate being able to see people play the game. it helps to make better game design decisions. if you want to, you can just share a google drive link along with any other feedback in this forum.
Thank you for your feedback, I haven't yet considered someone using the keyboard with only one hand, but i am working on adding controls to fire with the mouse buttons and that way players can choose with control scheme they prefer. I definitely need to update this playtest with some recent developments but for now, I would like to ask a few questions:
Gameplay wise, was there anything you felt worked really well? Was there anything that you felt was lacking? Were you able to finish and if so, how did it feel when you did finish the level?
I have been working on a project for the past month and a half that I hope to turn into a finished game one day with the intention of putting it on steam.
About the game: The game will be set in space in a human settled solar system (not entirely sure whether it'll be this one or a new one), but on each planet everyone is living a different life and no one person is in charge of the solar system at large. The player works for a government organization that specializes in developing new technologies to advance their planet's civilization and a different planet's army is coming to steal the technology from one of the cargo ships you have on route to another planet. They have hijacked the ship and the player must survive hostile encounters with enemy foes in order to make it out alive and back to her home planet safely. Thankfully the ship itself has emergency routes and you've been trained in emergency protocol. But the opposition is strong and you must be careful.
This is just a brief synopsis of the game, but this is what I have so far.

Right now, I have one artist and a composer, but im willing to add another artist/composer, but as far as roles that I do not have filled, those are:
Animator
Level Designer
UI/UX Designer
Game Designer
Social Media Manager
FX Artist
Localizers
and probably more roles too...
If I left something off this list and you think you have something you could add to the project let me know. I'm interested to know what you can do. And as I mentioned earlier, for now the idea is to release on steam as a commercial product so for most of the production it will be unpaid. If however, we do secure some funding at some point (either through a kickstarter, patreon or by some other means), I will probably switch up the payment model to reflect the stream of funding.
A demo is available on my itch page for you to get an idea of what the game will be like. Mind you, it might be a bit tricky to complete. I'm not planning on the game itself being super difficult, but it's more of a snapshot of the kind of scenarios that are possible in the game.
Contact me if you are interested. My discord is: genetic2236 or you can respond directly to this post and i'll reply here.
I like how polished this game feels and the art and music and overall aesthetic look really good. I did feel that the first level was rather slow and if i had to fight through it again, there isn't much that I feel would be super enjoyable. When I hit level 2, i felt that things were getting more interesting but considering that I some environmental elements can be moved around it would be nice to be able to use them during combat as like a shield. I also felt that something interesting could be done with the lighting, maybe some enemies can see you easily in the lighting, maybe others can't. Overall, it's pretty solid, but it would be nice to see some more interesting ideas.
