Events

The Walrus Talks is our national public event series about Canada and its place in the world. The series aims to present a diversity of perspectives on the issues that matter most to Canadians.

Held in theatres across the country or online via Zoom, these events are livestreamed on The Walrus website and archived on YouTube. In-person events feature seven speakers, while virtual events include four speakers and a Q&A.

Another offer is The Walrus Leadership Dinners. This format is an invitation-only, Chatham House Rule, un-recorded event that convenes Canadian business, media, academic, policy, and political leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities for progress regarding a particular business, industry, or public policy.

The Walrus convenes fifty people in a private dining room for a networking cocktail hour, followed by a moderated roundtable conversation held over dinner (or produced as a lunch). The Walrus Lab will work with you to create a custom event specific to your needs. From fireside chats to full-day conferences, we can deliver.

Awards Program

The Walrus Lab specializes in developing custom and unique award executions for our clients.

We’ve done everything from bespoke award shows to virtual conferences. The biggest event that we produce each year is the Amazon Canada First Novel Award, the highly respected Canadian literary award. Since our involvement, both the prize money and awareness of the award have grown significantly, placing it alongside prestigious literary awards like the Giller Prize. Its success led to an expansion into the youth writers’ space with the creation of a short story prize in 2018.

Podcast Booth

The Walrus Lab/Lead Podcast Booth brings events to life through conversation.

The Walrus Lab and our in-house podcast production company, Lead Podcasting, have launched an interactive podcast booth experience designed for conferences, festivals, and live events. The booth creates a welcoming space where attendees can share their perspectives, respond to curated questions, and contribute to meaningful conversations.

Hosted by two experienced members of our podcast team, the booth captures engaging interviews and authentic reflections throughout the event. The recordings are then edited into a professionally produced sizzle reel, providing a dynamic way to showcase the voices, ideas, and insights that emerged, while extending the impact of the event beyond the day itself.
