Following the release of Windows updates on August 11, 2026 (KB5121003) and later, Microsoft received reports of issues involving inability to run certain games as expected.

Ongoing investigation indicates that this issue is related to peripherals or internal device components which have RGB lighting features. Such devices may install drivers or code components with file names similar to inpoutx64. In systems where these drivers are found, the issue is then triggered by launching certain games.

The games mentioned in reports of this issue are ARC Raiders, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and THE FINALS. Symptoms include:

  • the game application becomes unresponsive
  • the game application closes without notice
  • the error "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" is displayed
  • the device restarts without warning

If you are experiencing this issue, or a similar issue, please use Feedback Hub to file a report. The Feedback Hub can be opened by pressing the Windows key and "F" at any time while in the Windows environment. For additional information, see Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app. Your reports are helpful to our investigation.

Next steps: We are presently working to understand the relationship between these RGB components and the games which trigger this issue. We will provide an update when more information is available.
