I am Running For The Animal World
I am Running For The Animal World
I am running for the animal world. I am running the 2026 London Marathon in support of the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), the charity that runs the London Zoo and a range of amazing international conservation programmes. The adult in me â and hopefully those of you who want to support my 42 km of sweat and tears â is proud to support the conservation charity, but I would be lying if I did not also acknowledge the child in me who still feels so excited at visiting the Zoo.

Grieving Stranger Things is grieving my inner child
Itâs time to accept it, Stranger Things is finished. We have all become a little bit more adult since Episode 8, which aired on New Yearâs Eve. Why is it so difficult to accept that it is over? This is not a rhetorical question. Thousands of fans online have, for weeks, argued that Episode 8 was not the end. According to the viral âConformity Gateâ theory, fans believed that there should have been a new episode coming out on January 7th.

Is Training for a Marathon Good for my Mental Health?
Is Training for a Marathon Good for my Mental Health?
I am at Week 10 of my training plan for the 2025 London Marathon. My first marathon. I know running is good for my mental health, but this is when I aimlessly go for a run on a beautiful day and run until I feel like it â not when I have a busy schedule of increasingly longer runs and progressively more tiring weeks of intense physical activity, all while the deadline is approaching of an enormous effort that I may never finish. So yes, I am stressed about it. And what do I do to cope with stres

Life at a UK University Since the October 7th Attacks
Bringing together the voices of an Israeli and a pro-Palestinian student at Kingâs College London. As we pass the one-year marking of the October 7th attacks, I have talked to two Kingâs College London (KCL) students, one Israeli and one Pro-Palestinian, trying to understand their emotional journey over the last year. Testimonies on life at KCL for Israeli and Jewish students and for Arab and Muslim students have been published before but in separate accounts; in this piece, however, I wanted to

An interview with the new Executive Dean of the IoPPNâI grew up in a family talking about philosophy and psychologyâ. This is how the conversation starts with Professor Matthew Hotopf, the new Executive Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) Kingâs College London, in an exclusive interview for Inspire the Mind. His father was an experimental psychologist, and his mother was actively involved in social causes, working in a housing charity. Yet, his first passion wa

Antidepressants Can Help People with Depressionâ - âWhile We Are Fighting for Societal Changes
I have recently written an academic piece on the putative debate on whether depression is a medical disorder or a psychosocial condition, and whether people with depression should be helped by prescribing antidepressants or through societal change. I call this a âputative debateâ because people who are critical of antidepressants often force such a dichotomous choice where none should be: all health problems are both medical and psychosocial; all people with a health problem can be helped by bot

Sometimes I write on my research. Sometimes on topics I am politically passionate about. Sometimes on things that happen to me. And sometimes a scene from a tv series affects me so much that writing about it is the only way for me to understand why.Welcome to my attempt to emotionally and cinematographically dissect the famous scene âMaxâs favourite song/Running Up That Hillâ in #StrangerThings4, Chapter 4.Spoiler alert: if you have not seen this chapter, or indeed the series, come back here aft

The Hype on âBeyond the Hypeâ: an Interview with Fiona Fox, the Head of the Science Media CentreWe are celebrating the 20 year anniversary of the Science Media Centre (SMC)âââthe organisation that Fiona Fox funded in 2002 in London, with the ambition of bringing scientists and researchers into the ânationâs airwavesâ. And we are just now starting to reflect on lessons learned (or not) on the effects of the COVID pandemic on the communication between scientists, politicians, and the public. Thus,
