His photography, developed while skateboarding through New York City, captures the raw, street-smart energy of 90s hip hop. Monroe's career began in 1988 when Thrasher magazine recognized his work, and by the early 90s, he was known for photographing hip-hop legends like Tupac Shakur, Nas, and Erykah Badu. His powerful images celebrate and preserve the legacy of this transformative era.
