Crying Gorgeously; 4:37am - Westwords
This poetry collection is a series of experiments, a body erupting in defiance and resistance to the language being rained upon it. Wrapped in pervasive loneliness and othering, J. Marahuyo explores the effects of dysfunctional family dynamics, colonialism and patriarchal structures on mental health and identity.

Donkey Kong, you’re one click away. Between you and I gusto mo nang meet sa swing set katabi yung old bahay mo? maupo tayo

Panoptes: Mother with her gilded champagne hair, seemingly infinite blue eyeballs, needed no cameras, not when she had a real time feed from her many plucked out eyes discreetly hidden in immaculate room top corners, in any book that had o’s and in all door knob key holes. But, best of all, was in the skull of the doll that roamed the house recording every movement, every word spoken whenever Mother was not home. Doll: The doll walked into our lives, built a house, drove us to school. My sister, Buwan, and I would chat to it wanting to be

If I’m honest, I’m too frothy for the inevitable game of, ‘Guess where I’m from’ coz no one ever can. And when I say, I’m Filo, people like to follow up, correct me, But, like, halfie, right? And, if I’m honest, I’m a greedy child sampling each sweet shock on every person’s face when I
