X-Files: The Collector's Set Blu-ray
Thankfully 20th Century Fox has since released corrected discs and here I am now in December 2018 being able to catch The X-Files in high definition. I have only seen the first three episodes, and it has been a revenalation. The inky blacks and pure whites are amazing, making this the most gorgeous TV remaster outside of Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation. And concerns over the reframing of the first four seasons from 1.33:1 to 1.78:1 aspect ratio were very quickly quashed thanks to the foresight by the X-Files production crew back in the day making the show widescreen safe for the most part.
The only complaint I have is with the opening credits, because the remastering company did not have time and resources to source the original fonts when remastering the text. It's very, very jarring to say the least.
Anyhow, I found my 10-year old blog post from when I first received the DVD complete series set, and boy did it bring back memories! And I was shocked that I had spent RM450 on it and thought that it was a bargain! In comparison, I spent RM289 on the new Blu-ray edition.
Of course being a modern release, there is unfortunately no swag or anything fancy in the box. It just contains the nine original seasons of the series, and that's it. I had already purchased the two movies years ago, and bought The Event Series and Season 11 separately. Of course I am keeping my old DVD set, even if many of the discs have succumbed to disc rot over the years.
