リンゴが元気に生きるお話です。

The blue apple was a misshapen, sour apple.
青いリンゴは、歪な形で酸っぱいリンゴだった。

It had no sweet honey, and its shape was awkward.
甘い蜜もなく、形も不格好。

The red apples always sold quickly,
赤いリンゴたちは、すぐに売れるのに、

but the blue apple was always left behind.
青いリンゴはいつも売れ残る。

The blue apple also wanted to be red, round, and sweet so it could be sold.
青いリンゴも、売れるために赤く丸く甘くなりたかった。

Eventually, a red sheen covered its surface,
やがて、赤い光沢が表面を覆い、

and though its misshapen shape and sourness never changed,
歪な形と酸っぱさは変わらないのに、

the blue apple gained a beautiful red color that caught everyone’s eye.
誰もが目を引く美しい赤さを、青いリンゴは手に入れた。

The red-coated apple lined up in the market, holding its red breath,
赤い光沢のリンゴは、市場に並び、赤く息を潜め、

and disappeared from the basket.
籠から消えていった。

The blue apple finally sold.
青いリンゴが、やっと売れた。

The blue apple was a misshapen, sour apple.
青いリンゴは、歪な形で酸っぱいリンゴ。

It had no sweet honey.
甘い蜜もない。

The red-coated apple sat among other fruits in the basket.
赤い光沢のリンゴは、果物籠に他の果物と並んだ。

Misshapen, sour, and without sweet honey,
歪な形で酸っぱいリンゴで、甘い蜜もないのに、

it looked as if a red apple had been placed there.
まるで赤いリンゴが籠にはいっているようだった。

The red-coated apple in the basket was too sour to eat.
籠の赤いリンゴは、酸っぱくて食べられたものではなかった。

At night, in the trash, the blue apple laughed quietly.
夜、ゴミ箱の中で、青いリンゴは静かに嗤っていた。

“I am the misshapen blue apple.
「私は、歪な青いリンゴ。

I once thought I could never be accepted by the world.”
私が、世界に受け入れられることは、ありえないと思っていた。」

The blue apple was fine as it was.
青いリンゴは、そのままでよかったんだ。

There was no need to become a red apple.
赤いリンゴに、化ける必要はなかったんだ。

Even if the surface was painted red, inside it was still blue.
表面を赤で覆っても、中身は青のままだ。

The blue apple is a blue apple.
青いリンゴは、青いリンゴだ。

So, covering the surface with transparent candy coating,
だから、透明な水飴で表面を覆い、

Next, it will be sold as a “sweet and sour candy apple.”
次は、『甘酸っぱいリンゴ飴』で売ろう。

In the moonlight,
月明かりのなか、

the blue apple, repainted in red,
赤い光沢を塗り直した青いリンゴは、

glowed coldly.
冷たく光っていた。

あとがき

英文で複数の、形容詞を並べる順番が、OPSHACOMらしいとわかったので、ちょっと試してみたくて、ポエム書いてその順で英文書いてもらいましたというのが、この絵本風の記事を書いた動機です。

なお、このお話の内容が、実在する何かに関連するかもしれないとおもわれるかもしれませんが、もしあると思うならばそれはあり、ないと思うあなたにとってはないのでしょう。

仮にあるならそれがあるかもしれませんが、それがあったとしても私は元気に生きているため、そのことにはあまり興味はありません。

少なくともポエムを書いた私という存在があることだけは確かで、結果的にメルヒェンな仕上がりになりました。

なお、当記事作成にあたり、英訳・作画・誤字脱字チェックはChatGPTがやってくれました。
