このコラムにある通り、歴史を振り返ると、権力を手にした人の中には、女性やこどもを尊重せず、自分の欲望のままに人を“もの”のように扱った者たちがいました。
「英雄、色を好む」という言葉があります。
彼らが本当に英雄だったのかはさておき、金や権力にものを言わせ、人権を軽んじる行動を取る人間は、残念ながら現代にも存在します。
今回の事件で特に恐ろしいのは、“関係者”とされる人物の中から、世界を動かすほどの影響力を持つ人々の名前が次々に浮かび上がっていることです。
しかし、それ以上に恐ろしいのは、この事件の被害者の多くが未成年、あるいは若い女性だったという事実です。
中には11歳の少女も含まれていると言われています。
彼女たちが受けたであろう、想像を絶する肉体的・精神的な傷。そして、その傷を抱えながら、今を生き、これからの人生を歩んでいかなければならない彼女たちの胸の内を思うと、言葉を失います。
そして今、その関係者の一人と見られている大統領が、突如として戦争を始めました。
明確な出口戦略も見えず、計画性も感じられないこの軍事行動の真の目的は何なのでしょうか。
エプスタイン氏の死をめぐっては、今もなお様々な疑惑が残されています。
だからこそ、この唐突な出来事が、自らに関わるスキャンダルから国民の注意を逸らすためではないかと疑う人がいるのも無理はないでしょう。
日本でも、スキャンダルで追及される可能性のある絶妙なタイミングで、国会を解散した政治家がいました。
こうした出来事を見ると、政治家が国民の関心や心理をコントロールしようとするのは、ある種の常套手段なのかもしれません。
しかし、この事件を忘れてはいけないと思います。
なぜなら、事件を忘れることは、その被害に遭った少女たちの存在を忘れることと同じだからです。
事件についても、そして戦争についても、私たちはこれからも注意深く見続けていかなければならないと思います。
💬 Emma’s Comment（English Translation）
History shows that some people who held power treated women and children not as human beings but as objects to satisfy their own desires.
There is a Japanese saying: “Heroes are fond of women.”
Whether those men were truly heroes is another matter. What is clear is that even today there are people who use money and power to justify behavior that disregards basic human rights.
What is particularly disturbing in this case is that among those connected to the scandal are individuals with enormous influence—people capable of shaping the world.
Even more horrifying is the fact that many of the victims were minors or very young women. One of them is said to have been only 11 years old.
When I think about the unimaginable physical and psychological trauma these girls and women must have endured—and the reality that they must continue living with those scars—I find myself at a loss for words.
Now, a president believed to be connected to people involved in this circle has suddenly launched a war.
With no clear exit strategy and little sign of careful planning, it is difficult not to question the true objective of this military action. Questions about the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death also remain.
Given this background, it is understandable that some people suspect that this sudden escalation may be intended to divert public attention away from scandals connected to him.
Japan has also seen politicians dissolve parliament at precisely the moment when scandals were about to bring them under intense scrutiny.
Perhaps this is one of the classic ways politicians attempt to manipulate public attention.
But this case must not be forgotten.
Because forgetting the case would mean forgetting the girls who were victimized.
For that reason, we must continue watching both the scandal and the war carefully.
