Illegal Adult Entertainment Fraud Targeting Foreigners in Kabukicho, Japan

Incident Overview

In Tokyo’s Shinjuku Kabukicho district, there has been a surge of fraudulent activities targeting foreign tourists through illegal solicitation.
Scammers approach people on the street, saying “It’s 10,000 yen OK,” but once inside a hotel or room, they demand an additional 10,000 yen.
According to witnesses,

“Chinese customers are stingy and no good; we prefer Nepalese because they pay well,”
indicating that foreigners were specifically targeted.

5 Tips for Safe Nighttime Enjoyment

  1. Never follow solicitors who approach you on the street (street solicitation is illegal in Japan).

  2. Confirm prices in writing or through official information beforehand (verbal promises alone are risky).

  3. Pay after service or use credit/cashless payment methods (this leaves proof).

  4. Ask tourist information centers or hotels for safe nightlife spot recommendations.

  5. If you encounter trouble, contact the police (110) or foreigner support hotlines immediately.
