An Autopsy of the Future: Rebuilding Our Story for July 5, 2025
Hello, good evening, and good morning!
I was watching TV when this news caught my eye. It seems this has leaped out of the internet's occult corners and become a matter of national interest.
Lately, has your own heart not been quietly shaken by these words? This time, I would like to think about the event rumored to occur on July 5th.
Prologue: The Illness Called 'Future' That Afflicts You
Have you ever thought, "The future is frightening"?
This is a little different from the fear of a concrete event, like the result of an exam or the success or failure of a work project. It is more elusive, a sensation like a low-grade fever that a thermometer cannot detect, one that lingers stickily in the background of our daily lives. As if, on a clear day, one point in the distant sky remains perpetually dark and stagnant. Or like the low, persistent hum you hear when you strain your ears in a quiet room.
That is the illness called 'future'.
This illness may be a symptom peculiar to those of us living in the modern age. In the past, the futures of most people were, to a certain extent, determined by their place of birth and social standing. For better or worse, the rails of their story were already laid. But we, today, are standing on a vast, foggy plain called 'infinite choice.' We live in a world where information is saturated, values have diversified, and yesterday's 'correct answer' is no longer valid today. In exchange for that freedom, we have taken on the fundamental anxiety of having to draw the map of the future for ourselves.
To escape this anxiety, we seek 'forecasts.' Economic forecasts, climate change predictions, and, at times, we turn to 'prophecy'—the simplest and most potent story of prediction. Yet, ironically, the more we try to know the future, the more our hearts become exhausted. The act of searching for a single 'correct answer' from among countless possibilities does not reassure us; on the contrary, it amplifies our fear of the countless other possibilities.
This article is not a prescription for that illness. Rather, it is a tool for you to join me in directly confronting and dissecting the diseased area. As a case study, we will take up a 'specific date' that now most symbolically reflects the collective anxiety of the Japanese people.
What begins now is not a prediction of the future. It is an autopsy of the 'heart' that craves the future.
Chapter 1: The 'Specific Date' as a Prism – Why Does Anxiety Crystallize on "July 5th"?
That formless anxiety, drifting like a fog in our hearts. It is so vague that there is no way to deal with it. And so, our minds unconsciously begin to search for a 'vessel'—a vessel into which we can pour this anxiety and give it a concrete shape.
And what functions as a more perfect vessel than any other is a 'specific date'.
"July 5, 2025."
This is the date we will be deciphering. But please, do not misunderstand. Our purpose is not to verify what will or will not happen on this day. Such a thing is, in principle, impossible for anyone.
Our purpose is to clarify how this date is functioning as a powerful 'prism' within the psyche of the modern Japanese person.
