未来につなぐ希望の光 "日本国憲法"

日本国憲法は、人類が長い苦難と血のにじむような努力の末に勝ち取った、人類社会の理想像と言えるでしょう。

79年前に施行されたこの憲法は、8千万人以上の犠牲者を出した第二次世界大戦への深刻な反省から、国連憲章の理念を背景に、後の世界人権宣言にも通じる、全人類の叡知の結晶なのです。

日本国憲法の基本理念である
・戦争放棄
・国民主権
・基本的人権の尊重
は、失われてはならない普遍的価値であり、人類を未来へとつなぐ希望の光として、今もその輝きを増しています。

しかし、残念なことに、人類はこの理想を、いまだにどれ一つとして完全には達成できていません。
世界では強権的な政治がはびこり、差別や格差、人権侵害が蔓延し、紛争や戦争が絶えず、気候変動の脅威が、基本的人権ばかりか、全人類の生存権すら脅かしています。
世界は、相次ぐ戦争と混迷のなかで、未来への道しるべを失ってしまったかのようです。

今日は、憲法記念日です。
私たちはこの日を、日本国民の一人として、憲法の崇高な理念を再認識するとともに、地球市民の一人として、その普遍的な価値を世界に向けて発信する日としていきたいものです。

私たちは、理想を現実に合わせるのではなく、現実を理想に合わせる努力を怠ってはなりません。
世界に誇るべき日本国憲法は今、"風前の灯"になろうとしています。

“A Light of Hope Connecting to the Future: The Constitution of Japan”

The Constitution of Japan can be said to represent an ideal vision of human society, won through humanity’s long suffering and painstaking, blood-stained efforts.

Coming into force 79 years ago, this Constitution arose from deep reflection on World War II, which claimed the lives of more than 80 million people. Grounded in the ideals of the United Nations Charter, it stands as a crystallization of the collective wisdom of all humankind, one that also resonates with the later Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Renunciation of war

Popular sovereignty

Respect for fundamental human rights

are universal values that must never be lost. As a light of hope that connects humanity to the future, they continue to shine ever more brightly even today.

However, regrettably, humanity has not yet fully achieved even a single one of these ideals. Around the world, authoritarian politics are on the rise; discrimination, inequality, and human rights violations are widespread; conflicts and wars persist without end; and the threat of climate change is endangering not only fundamental human rights but even the very right to survival of all humankind. Amid successive wars and deepening turmoil, the world seems to have lost its guiding path toward the future.

Today is Constitution Memorial Day.

On this day, as citizens of Japan, we should reaffirm the noble ideals of our Constitution, and at the same time, as citizens of the Earth, we should make it a day to share its universal values with the world.

We must not adapt our ideals to reality; rather, we must not neglect our efforts to shape reality in accordance with our ideals.

The Constitution of Japan, something we can proudly present to the world, now stands on the brink—like a flickering flame in the wind.
