ZKSVBLOG VOL,17(Vienna,Austria

Austria, Vienna. The City of Music. It had always been a place I admired, but I also thought, “Maybe performing there is something beyond our reach.” Part of that came from Vienna’s overwhelming image as the home of classical music. And when we first started putting together the Europe Chapter, we didn’t know anyone in Austria, which made it feel even more distant.

But then I met one man, and everything changed in an instant.

His name is Christian Nakanishi.

Christian Nakanishi

His very first LINE message to me was, “I’ll be waiting for you when you arrive at the airport!” accompanied by this photo.

When I met him at the airport, my immediate impression was, “This man looks unbelievably kind.” That first impression has not changed at all.

In fact, Japanese people like Abe-san and me try our absolute best never to inconvenience anyone, but when travelling around the world, we also have to be somewhat bold and assertive. There are many situations where we simply have no other choice. We are louder than people from almost any other country, we say exactly what we think, and when something is unpleasant, unacceptable, or simply wrong, we speak up.

At the same time, we always conduct ourselves with the understanding that we are Japanese visitors being welcomed into someone else’s country.

Christian, however, is such a genuinely kind man that I sometimes find myself wondering, “Are you really going to be okay being this nice?” He is incredibly thoughtful, considerate, and remarkably good at sensing what others need without them having to say it.

I had often wondered why he seemed so unusually familiar with Japanese culture, but then I learned that his wife is Japanese.

Right. That explains everything.

And knowing that we will most likely see each other again in November 2026 already makes me very happy.

Now then, the only time we had in Vienna, Austria, was the day we arrived in the country, March 2, and the day of the live show, March 3. The very next day, March 4, we were already scheduled to leave for Switzerland.

Everyone wandered around a little on their own during the afternoon, but just before evening, Christian came to pick us up.

And so began what I decided to call:

“Christian’s Whirlwind Vienna Sightseeing Tour, Aboard His Trusty Shuttle Van.”

Natural History Museum Vienna
Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, Austria
Maria-Theresien-Platz, Vienna
Maria Theresa Monument
   Neue Burg, Hofburg Palace, Vienna

We actually got to see a lot more with our own eyes from inside the van, but depending on where I was sitting, there were times when I could take photos and times when I simply couldn’t. So unfortunately, this is about all I have to show you.

And with that, our little sightseeing tour came to an end.

At last, we arrived at the live venue in Vienna, Austria!

   The members at Replugged

This is Replugged, the venue where Zenbu Kimi no Sei da. played our very first show in Vienna, and also our very first solo concert there.

I still remember feeling strangely overwhelmed when we arrived. Being able to hold a solo show in a country we were visiting for the very first time is not something that happens often. It truly isn’t.

The same is true in every country. None of this would be possible without the organizers in each place, and in this case, without all the effort Christian put in for us. It also would not be possible without fans waiting for us in each country.

It was one of those moments that made me think, “I’m really glad we kept going.”

And on this day, Mike had come all the way from Estonia to photograph the show. I shoot photos myself under the name “Ic,” but having Mike there meant a great deal.

Thank you, Mike.

Mike

I really hope that on next year’s world tour, we’ll finally make it to Estonia, where Mike lives.

Estonia is one of the Baltic states, isn’t it? Maybe it’s just my own imagination, but I’ve always thought the Baltic countries sounded incredibly cool. I looked into Estonia a little, and everything I found described it as a beautiful, wonderful place.

I hope we get to go.

Now, back to where we left off.

Let’s look back on our solo show in Vienna through these live photos and revisit the night together.

Something rather unusual happened during this show, even by the standards of everything Zenbu Kimi no Sei da. has experienced over the years.

I’m not sure how each of you perceives our live performances, but there are a few characteristics that have always defined what a Zenbu Kimi no Sei da. show is.

1. There is essentially no MC during our live shows.
Aside from a brief self introduction, we rarely speak between songs.

2. We do not drink water during the live show.

Those two points are probably the most unusual aspects of our live shows. There are various reasons behind them, so if you’re ever curious, feel free to ask me another time.

That said, something happened at our Vienna show that completely broke both of those “rules.”

In Japan, especially in Tokyo, live houses almost always have wireless microphone systems permanently installed. Outside Tokyo, some venues do and some don’t.

For this show, however, we were told that the venue didn’t have enough wireless microphones for all of our members. So Christian went out of his way to rent a complete wireless microphone system for us.

Kai did the very same thing for us in Norway as well.

The venue’s sound engineer was responsible for setting up the system, but in Japan, KODOMOMENTAL and GARDE SECT own their own dedicated wireless microphones and equipment. Zenbu Kimi no Sei da., in particular, even has a system reserved exclusively for the group rather than simply using the company’s shared equipment. Each microphone is carefully tuned to suit the individual member’s voice.

Naturally, things are different overseas. We cannot bring that entire system with us from Japan, so recreating the same setup is difficult from the outset.

The opening song that night was “Hohei Dystopia.” It is a metal and loud-pop track driven by pounding double-bass drums and a striking horn motif.

The intro began, Megumi gave her opening call to the crowd, and the tension was building toward that moment when you can feel the song about to explode.

Then came the first verse, which was supposed to begin with Megumi.

But suddenly, no sound came from her microphone.

Normally, the more experienced members notice something like that immediately and, without any prior discussion or preparation, start passing microphones to one another whenever their respective parts come up. That level of adaptability is simply something they have developed over the years, especially because problems like this do happen from time to time.

So on this occasion as well, Megumi dealt with it by sharing microphones with Mei and Komochi.

However, the microphone simply refused to recover.

Unless something truly serious happens, we almost never stop a live show. But this was our first solo concert in a country we had never visited before, and having Megumi’s microphone completely fail was simply too serious to ignore.

So, in an extremely rare turn of events, we stopped the show.

It took about fifteen minutes.

While the sound engineer, Abe-san, and Christian were trying every possible solution to get the system working again, what do you think the members were doing?

Believe it or not… they were doing an MC!

There was one wired microphone available for announcements, so Megumi picked it up and somehow kept an MC going for the entire fifteen minutes… in English. (laughs)

Now, to be clear, Megumi’s English comprehension is actually quite good. But it’s definitely not at the level where she’d confidently say, “I can speak English.” If anything, it was full-on “Degawa English.”

And somehow… it worked.

Of course, the audience was incredibly kind. More than anything, they genuinely wanted to understand what she was saying, and that’s probably the real reason communication was possible.

Still, that fifteen-minute MC has become legendary. (laughs)

Incidentally, at the biggest performance of our career, our show at Nippon Budokan, we didn’t have a single MC.

After fifteen minutes of battling with the equipment, the problem was finally resolved…

All because of one simple sentence from the sound engineer.

“Oh, come to think of it, we do have one wireless microphone here.”

So they had one all along?!

Even as someone from Wakayama, I couldn’t help wanting to shout, “Come on!!” And of course my next thought was, “You might’ve wanted to mention that a little earlier!” But at that point, all we could do was laugh. (laughs)

So we reset everything and started the show over from the very beginning. It made for a rather unusual opening to the concert.

From there, we gave it everything we had, just as we always do, and finished our Vienna performance with all our strength. Afterwards, we somehow managed the merchandise sales and meet-and-greet in a venue so dark it barely had any floor lighting at all, and before we knew it, the day had come to a happy end. (laughs)

It was an absolutely wonderful day.

And finally, a photo with the members, Christian, and Mike.

Needless to say, the live show was truly wonderful from the bottom of my heart, and it became one of those memories that stays with you somewhere deep inside.

The fans we met in Vienna were genuinely wonderful too. Christian, who supported us so much, his wife and children, everyone at the venue, Mike, every single person we met was lovely.

And just like that, we found yet another place we absolutely want to return to on our 2027 world tour.

And Estonia too, of course.
