It’s great to be here today. Let me start by briefly introducing myself.
(33:38~)皆さんこんにちは！バーチャルシンガーの理芽です。
今日はこうしてお会いできて嬉しいです。まずは簡単に自己紹介をさせてください。
As mentioned, my name is RIM, and I`m active as a virtual singer. I started my musical career about five years ago, and some of my best-known songs are “Carnivorous plants” and ” Pilgrim”. My reason for getting into music was simple. I love music deeply and wanted to freely express my own world view.
先ほども申し上げましたが、バーチャルシンガーとして活動している理芽です。音楽活動を始めたのは約5年前で、代表曲は「食虫植物」と「ピルグリム」です。音楽を始めたきっかけはシンプルでした。音楽が大好きで、自分の世界観を自由に表現したかったからです。
(34:21~) Now, what exactly is a virtual singer or “V-singer”? It’s an artist who performs music through a virtual avatar. Thanks to this avatar, I can freely hold both real world and virtual concerts. During live shows, my facial expressions and movements are captured in real time, creating a virtual yet extremely realistic experience like this. I think it’s truly a new form of entertainment. Moreover, RIM also appears in games and theatrical performances, and this summer an anime featuring the five members of the virtual singer group “Virtual Witch Phenomenon”, they are called “V.W.P”, which I`m a part of as the main characters is set to air. And this way I`m providing various ways for fans to enjoy my presence.
(34:21~)さて、バーチャルシンガー、通称「Vシンガー」とは一体何でしょうか？それはバーチャルなアバターを通して音楽を演奏するアーティストのことです。このアバターのおかげで、現実世界とバーチャルの世界の両方で自由にライブを開催することができます。ライブでは、私の表情や動きがリアルタイムでキャプチャーされるので、このようにバーチャルでありながら非常にリアルな体験ができます。これはまさに新しいエンターテイメントの形だと思っています。さらに、理芽はゲームや舞台にも出演しています。そしてこの夏、バーチャルシンガーグループ「Virtual Witch Phenomenon（通称V.W.P）」の5人をフィーチャーしたアニメが放送されることになり、私もメインキャラクターとして参加しています。こうしてファンの皆さんに様々な形で私の存在を届けています。
(35:31~) Being virtual also protects my privacy. I don’t have to worry about being identified or facing prejudice or harassment based on real world appearance or background. Fans generally enjoy RIM for who she is as a whole. By the way, until recently I was studying abroad in the US. Even during the time, I continued streaming to my Japanese fans through my avatar. While abroad I fully enjoyed myself. I watched basketball and baseball games attended concert by “Kendrick Lamar”, ”Billie Eilish” and “Keshi”, and visited amusement parks and traveled extensively to places like LA, New York, Florida, Las Vegas and so on. Maybe there are some guests here today from the US? I even joined the New Year’s countdown in New York. It was freezing and rainy, and I got a fever. But I powered through. My study abroad experience has become an unforgettable memory.
(35:31~) バーチャルであることでプライバシーも守られます。現実世界での容姿や経歴で特定されたり、偏見や嫌がらせを受ける心配もありません。ファンの皆さんは、ありのままの理芽を楽しんでくれていると思います。ちなみに、最近までアメリカに留学していました。留学中も、アバターを通して日本のファンの皆さんに配信を続けていました。留学中は、バスケや野球の試合を観戦したり、「ケンドリック・ラマー」「ビリーアイリッシュ」「ケシ」のコンサートに行ったり、遊園地に行ったり、ロサンゼルス、ニューヨーク、フロリダ、ラスベガスなど様々な場所を旅行したりと、思いっきり楽しんでいました。今日はアメリカからゲストがいらしているかもしれませんね。ニューヨークで年越しカウントダウンにも参加しました。凍えるような寒さと雨の中、熱も出てしまいましたが、なんとか乗り越えました。留学生活は忘れられない思い出になりました。
(37:02~) Anyway, next let me talk a bit about my virtual body and presence. The existence of RIM is expanding through official comics, fan art and various media. In Japan, vocal synthesizer software like “Vocaloid” is extremely popular, and I`m part of this cultural movement myself. Specifically, there is software called “RIME”, a homonym of my name but spelled differently, essentially like my alter ego. It’s fascinating to see my existence spreading this way. However, sometimes it leads to misconceptions or biases which can be scary. But still, overall, it’s wonderful cause it brings more listeners to my music. Also, even if someday I`m unable to sing, software like RIME can keep singing on my behalf, which makes me happy. I believe short form cropping videos are also part of this new culture, potentially becoming future traditions. Additionally, I hope someday all live performances and activities can capture real emotions and sensations beyond me on videos. Imagine, if future technology like virtual reality could vividly preserve the excitement and emotions of a moment, that would be amazing. I hope everyone holds on to such fresh feelings forever.
(37:02~) さて、次は私のバーチャルな身体と存在について少しお話しましょう。理芽の存在は、公式コミックやファンアート、様々なメディアを通して広がっています。日本では「VOCALOID」のような歌声合成ソフトが大人気で、私もこの文化ムーブメントに参加しています。具体的には、私の名前と同音異義語で綴りが違う「裏命」というソフトがあります。いわば私の分身のようなもの。このように私の存在が広がっていくのは、とても興味深いことです。ただ、誤解や偏見を生むこともあり、怖いこともあります。それでも、全体としては素晴らしいことです。私の音楽を聴いてくれるリスナーが増えるからです。そして、いつか私が歌えなくなっても、裏命のようなソフトが私に代わって歌い続けてくれるのは、本当に嬉しいです。ショート動画もこの新しい文化の一部であり、将来的には伝統になる可能性を秘めていると思います。さらに、いつかライブパフォーマンスやアクティビティが、私のリアルな感情や感覚を動画で捉えてくれるようになることを願っています。バーチャルリアリティのような未来のテクノロジーが、一瞬の興奮や感動を鮮やかに記録できたら素晴らしいでしょう。そんな新鮮な感覚を、誰もがいつまでも持ち続けられることを願っています。
(38:58~) Lastly, I’ll briefly touch on the topic of a future in 2050. By then perhaps we have personalized AI assistants making our lives easier sound sort of like our own human like “Alexa”. Though not completely substitute for ourselves, they might significantly enhance convenience. However, it’s a bit scary if they become too central to our lives. But I believe virtual entertainment will become deeply integrated into daily life by 2050.
(38:58~) 最後に、2050年の未来について少し触れたいと思います。その頃には、「アレクサ」のように、まるで人間のようなパーソナライズされたAIアシスタントが、私たちの生活をより便利にしてくれるかもしれません。完全に私たちの代わりを務めるわけではないかもしれませんが、利便性は飛躍的に向上するでしょう。しかし、それが私たちの生活の中心になりすぎるのは少し怖いです。しかし、2050年には、バーチャルエンターテインメントが日常生活に深く溶け込んでいると信じています。
(39:38~)When I started my career, I spoke in standard Japanese catered to my character RIM, but recently I’ve started speaking in my natural accent in mannerisms because it feels more enjoyable and authentic. Honestly at first, I felt uncomfortable being my character. But now, I’m able to be just myself, and it doesn’t feel strange or awkward anymore. Relationships with virtual beings can be complicated, but expressing oneself authentically will remain extremely important, I think.
(39:38~) キャリアをスタートした頃は、理芽というキャラクターに合わせて標準語で話していましたが、最近はより楽しく、よりリアルに感じられるように、自分の自然なアクセントや話し方にしています。正直、最初は自分のキャラクターでいることに違和感がありました。でも今はありのままの自分でいられるようになって、違和感も気まずさもなくなりました。バーチャルな存在との人間関係は複雑ですが、ありのままの自分を表現することはこれからもとても大切だと思います。
