我が内なる5人の龍と5人の虎
１．日本語
中国の深圳って大変おもしろい地で、立地的には広東省の大都市で当然広東語が広く話されると思うのですが、実は標準語（マンダリン）なのです。鄧小平の改革開放政策により、のどかな漁村から大都市に急成長した、世界史的にも極めてユニークな都市です。その急成長の過程で中国のほぼ全土から人が集まりました。実際、私が責任者を務めた20数人の物流組織でも、ヘッダーの１０省（物語の展開の事情で２－３の省は他部署からを入れましたが趣旨は変わりません）から、といったところでした。

・陝西省
・湖北省
・湖南省
・四川省
・江西省
・福建省
・広東省（潮州）
・海南省
これって、まあほぼ中国全土といって差し支えないですよね。
赴任の最初に「これをやってみたい」はたくさんありましたが、20数名の名前と共に「出身省を覚える」ことでした。1週間後頃に懇親会するのでそのときまでにね、って感じで。今では怪しいように思いますが、当時は吸収力もまだまだ健在でした(笑)。
さて、深圳という地の特性で言うと、私は、この「多文化」が筆頭にくるほど大きいと思います。そして、2011年から2015年という年代的には、更に、一般市民の所得水準が向上して社会のエネルギーも爆発的に拡大した時期でした。もともと向上心がものすごく強くガンガンに前を向いていたそれぞれのスタッフが、しっかりとその対償として、おしゃれになり、ますます輝いていく、その過程に間近に立ち会わせてもらったことが、私の4年間の一番のご褒美かもしれないです。
そうです。あの4年間は、大勢のスタッフのエネルギーを私が吸収させてもらった時期かもしれない。
前のほうの稿で宣言したのですが、私にとってのこの重要な4年間を、自分なりに、物語という表現方法で残しておきたいです。ここからは幾分フィクションも入れまして、物語の主要登場人物を5人の女性（5人の龍）と5人の男性（5人の虎）とします。舞台は物流組織とその現場とするのが一番リアルにできます。実際に起きたエピソードを中心に、5人の龍と5人の虎とともに生き抜いた汗と涙と人間愛と感動、たまには葛藤と衝突。それらをひっくるめた人間ドラマの奥に「あの時代」が覗き見られるような構成を、これから毎日せっせと考えていきますよ。来年1月18日に香港マラソンに出場しますが、そこも一つのネタに入れ込みますし💦、香港の後には深圳に取材訪問いたしますよ。
あと115日。毎日はできませんが一歩一歩の向上継続！

Shenzhen, China is an incredibly fascinating place. Geographically, it’s a major city in Guangdong Province, so you would naturally assume that Cantonese is widely spoken. However, the reality is that Mandarin (Standard Chinese) is the main language there. Thanks to Deng Xiaoping’s Reform and Opening-Up policy, Shenzhen rapidly grew from a quiet fishing village into a major metropolis—making it an extraordinarily unique city even from a global historical perspective.
During that period of rapid growth, people from virtually every part of China gathered there. In fact, even in the logistics team I led, which had just over 20 members, we had people from ten different provinces (though, due to the storyline I’m working on, 2–3 of the provinces were actually from other departments, but the point remains the same). The provinces were:
Heilongjiang
Jilin
Shaanxi
Hubei
Hunan
Sichuan
Jiangxi
Fujian
Guangdong (Chaozhou)
Hainan
You could say that’s basically the whole of China, and you wouldn’t be wrong.
When I first arrived, I had a long list of “things I wanted to try,” but one of the first was to memorize each member’s name along with their home province. We had a get-together about a week later, so I made that my goal by then. Looking back now, it seems kind of ambitious—but at the time, my memory still had some power left in it (laughs).
Now, speaking of Shenzhen’s unique characteristics, I believe its “multiculturalism” is one of its defining features. And from 2011 to 2015, the period I’m referring to, the income levels of ordinary citizens were rising, and the energy of society was exploding. Each staff member already had strong ambition and a go-getter spirit, and they really blossomed—becoming more fashionable and confident as their lives improved. Being able to witness that transformation up close might have been the greatest reward of my four years there.
Yes, maybe those four years were a time when I absorbed the energy of so many staff members.
As I mentioned in a previous entry, I want to document this important four-year period of my life through a story—my own form of expression. From here on, the narrative will incorporate a touch of fiction. The main characters will be five women (the “Five Dragons”) and five men (the “Five Tigers”). The setting will be the logistics organization and its day-to-day operations, which is the most realistic way to portray it.
Centered around actual events, I’ll craft a story of sweat, tears, human connection, and deep emotions that we experienced together—along with moments of conflict and confrontation. Through all of it, I hope to give readers a glimpse into “that era.” I’ll be working on this diligently, little by little, every day.
I’m also running in the Hong Kong Marathon on January 18 next year, so I’ll include that as one of the story’s elements 💦. After Hong Kong, I’ll visit Shenzhen for some on-the-ground research as well.
Only 115 days left. I may not write every single day, but I’ll keep moving forward step by step!
