多民族で共に祝うスリランカのお正月

スリランカ界隈の皆様、明日４月１４日はお正月ですね。おめでとうございます。
南洋の光り輝く島、スリランカは多民族国家で、内訳はシンハラ人＝７５％、タミル人＝１５％、その他、と言われます。一般的に、多民族の文化では、それぞれの文化でお正月などの行事の日程が定められる認識でいました。例えばシンガポールやマレーシアでは、陽暦のお正月、中華系の春節、マレー系のハリラヤ・プアサ、インド系のディパパリ、といった具合に。それぞれの文化のお正月を尊重しあう文化は、これはこれで尊いものですね。（まあ日本においても多少は文化が融合されてきている側面もありますので、例えば春節への認知は進んできてはいると思いますが）
一方でのスリランカでは、シンハラ人、タミル人、その他が「同じ日のお正月を祝う！」これは更に「多民族文化の進化」みたいな気がしました。一度、ぜひ現地で体験してみたいものですね。
さて、多少は他文化の認知が進んできている日本におきましても、スリランカのお正月を経験することはできます。ありがたいですね。例えば池袋の「フロリダ亭」。
４月１３日の大晦日の日に、スリランカのお正月文化をご説明いただき、何と無料で！ お祝いのお米の料理「キリバット」と様々なスイーツを提供してもらえました。

下の写真の、左の３品がお祝いのお米料理「キリバット」で、ココナッツミルク入りです。私はココナッツミルクのお米というとマレーシアのナシレマが思い浮かぶのですが、当日のキリバットはもう少し「スイーツ」の体裁で提供してもらえました。上からプレーン、豆入り、バタフライピーの青色着色（もちろん自然着色）で、微妙な味わいの違いも楽しめました。
フロリダ亭さん、「来年もぜひお越しください！」というありがたいお言葉です。誘い合って多民族文化体験をしてみましょう！

To everyone around Sri Lanka, tomorrow, April 14th, is New Year’s Day. Congratulations!
Sri Lanka, a shining island in the South Seas, is a multi-ethnic nation with a breakdown of 75% Sinhalese, 15% Tamil, and others. Generally, in multi-ethnic cultures, it is recognized that each culture has its own set dates for events like New Year’s. For example, in Singapore and Malaysia, there are different New Year celebrations such as the Gregorian New Year, the Chinese New Year (Chun Jie), the Malay Hari Raya Puasa, and the Indian Diwali. Respecting each culture's New Year celebrations is truly something precious. (In Japan too, there are aspects where cultures have begun to blend, such as growing recognition of the Chinese New Year, I believe.)
On the other hand, in Sri Lanka, Sinhalese, Tamils, and others all celebrate “New Year’s on the same day!” This felt like a kind of “evolution of multi-ethnic culture.” It’s something I’d love to experience in person someday.
Now, even in Japan, where recognition of other cultures has progressed somewhat, it is possible to experience Sri Lankan New Year’s traditions. How wonderful! For example, at “Florida-tei” in Ikebukuro, on the evening of April 13th (the Sri Lankan New Year’s Eve), they explained the culture of Sri Lanka’s New Year and even offered it for free! They served the celebratory rice dish “Kiribath” along with various sweets.
An array of New Year sweets were lined up on the table! In the photo below, the three dishes on the left are the celebratory rice dish “Kiribath,” which is made with coconut milk. When I think of rice with coconut milk, I think of Malaysia’s Nasi Lemak, but on that day, the Kiribath was served more like a “dessert.” From the top, there were plain, bean-filled, and butterfly pea-infused (naturally colored) varieties, allowing us to enjoy the subtle differences in flavor.
Florida-tei said, “Please come again next year!” What a kind invitation. Let’s all invite each other and experience multi-ethnic cultures together!
