皆さま、こんにちは。 今日はラジオの内容を参考に、英語の勉強をほんの少しだけしてみたいと思います。
今回の題材は、2007年に放送されたラジオ番組『安住紳一郎の日曜天国』の面白いエピソードです。番組内で募集されたメッセージテーマ「ついつい見栄を張ってしまうこと」の中から、日常の思わずクスッと笑ってしまうようなひとコマを英文にしてみました。

Episode 1: Little Vanities on the Train
I am a 41-year-old man, but I still have a secret habit. Sometimes, when I ride the train on the Inokashira Line, I suddenly decide to get off.
The station is called Komaba-Todaimae, located right in front of a top university. To be honest, I have absolutely no business or errands to do there.
I am neither a student nor a professor at this elite school. However, when the train doors open, I step onto the platform with a serious look on my face.
I walk past the young students, pretending that I belong to this academic world. I just want the other passengers to look at me and think, "Oh, maybe he is a smart researcher or a graduate student."
On other days, I take the Toyoko Line and get off at Den-en-chofu station. It is a famous and beautiful area where very wealthy people live.
I slowly walk out of the ticket gate and look around at the big, elegant houses and expensive cars. I adjust my coat, look at my watch, and pretend that I am walking back to my own luxury home.
I enjoy imagining that the people passing by think, "He must be a rich man living in this high-class neighborhood."
Of course, it is all a lie. I actually live in a completely normal, small apartment in a regular town. It is a silly and useless piece of vanity.
But on days when I feel tired of my ordinary life, this little acting makes my heart bounce a bit. Can anyone understand this strange and unheroic feeling of a 41-year-old man?

通りすがる人々が、 「彼はこの高級住宅街に住むお金持ちに違いない」と思っているところを想像して楽しむのです。
もちろん、すべて嘘です。実際には、普通の街にある至って普通の小さなアパートに住んでいます。 馬鹿げた、つまらない見栄です。
しかし、平凡な日常に少し疲れた日には、このちょっとしたお芝居が心を少し弾ませてくれます。 41歳の男の、この奇妙で格好のつかない気持ちを、誰か分かってくれる人はいるでしょうか？
