HLAB OBUSE 2025 Daily Report

【DAY1】打ち解ける

　本日よりHLAB OBUSE 2025 サマースクールが始まりました。小布施駅についた高校生は大学生メンターに迎えられ、受付会場である小布施町役場へとまっすぐ歩いていきました。駅に到着後、多くの高校生が初めての環境、初めての出会いに少し戸惑ったり、不安な表情を浮かべたりしていましたが、開会式までの間、会場で和やかに話す様子が見られ、表情も少しずつ明るくなっているようでした。

　北斎ホールで行われた『開会式』は、ステージから大学生メンターが登場して高校生を迎え、地域代表である別府直樹によるスピーチによって幕を上げました。式典では、小布施町町長 大宮透様からご挨拶をいただき、さらに海外大学生代表 Rahul Vivekと高校生代表からスピーチがありました。また、ご来賓として、小布施町議会議長の小西和実様、小布施町教育委員会教育長の山﨑茂様にお越しいただきました。式典中は表情も硬く未知の７日間に不安げな表情を見せていた高校生も徐々に緊張が和らぎ、全員が一斉に風船を投げて開会を祝うHLABの伝統であるオープニングスパーク直後の表情は満面の笑みを浮かべ、場の高揚感を肌で感じている高校生の表情が多く見られました。

　サマースクール期間中のルールやHLABが大切にしている理念を学ぶ『オリエンテーション』を終えた後、参加者は次の企画の舞台である文化体育館に移動しました。HOUSEと呼ばれる高校生約6人、大学生約3.4人で構成される行動班同士で対抗戦を行ったり、全員企画としてだるまさんが転んだをアレンジした「だるまさんの一日」を英語バージョンで行ったりと、より多くの人とコミュニケーションを取り、協力するスポーツ企画を行いました。はじめは英語を使うことに高いハードルを感じていた高校生が、海外大学生に話かけに行き共同作業を行うなど、国籍・年齢を超えたコミュニケーションが至るところで生まれていました。その後の「Welcome Dinner」では、大学生と高校生がざっくばらんな雰囲気でごはんを食べながらお互いのことについて会話を弾ませていました。

　夜にはDAY1の最後のプログラムである『リフレクション』を行いました。リフレクションでは、その日に感じたことや考えたこと、印象に残っていることなどをノートに書き出し、その一日で感じたことや新しい発見をHOUSEのメンバーで共有しました。はじめは慣れない作業に戸惑う様子も見られましたが、60分という時間をかけて徐々に頭の中を整理し、「体験を経験に変える」時間の意義を感じたようでした。

　ついにサマースクールが始まり、環境やHLABの空気感に慣れることに精一杯になっている高校生の様子も見られたDAY1でした。しかし、その学びの姿勢はとても輝いており、これからの一週間での成長が期待できる1日となりました。

 Today, the HLAB OBUSE 2025 Summer School has officially begun!
When the high school students arrived at Obuse Station, they were welcomed by their mentors. From there, they walked straight to the Obuse Town Hall, where the check-in took place.For many of them, it was their first time in this town and their first time meeting new people, so some looked a little nervous or unsure at first. However, while waiting for the opening ceremony, we saw them chatting warmly with each other, and their expressions slowly began to brighten. The atmosphere became more relaxed and friendly.

The opening ceremony took place at Hokusai Hall. All mentors came onto the stage to welcome the high school students, and the event began with a speech by Naoki Beppu, a representative of HLAB OBUSE 2025. During the ceremony, we heard greetings from Mr. Toru Omiya, the mayor of Obuse Town. There were also speeches by Rahul Vivek, the overseas university student representative, and the high school student representative. We were honored to have special guests join us: Mr. Kazumi Konishi, the chairperson of the Obuse Town Council, and Mr. Shigeru Yamazaki, the director of the Obuse Town Board of Education. At the start, some high school students looked tense and worried about the seven days ahead that lay unknown. But as the ceremony went on, their nerves began to ease.

 After finishing the orientation, where participants learned about the rules of the summer school and the important values of HLAB, everyone moved to the Culture and Sports Center, the stage for the next activities. There, the students took part in friendly competitions between groups called "HOUSE," which each included some high school students and university students. They also played a game called "Daruma-san’s Day," an English version of the classic “Daruma-san ga koronda” (similar to “Red Light, Green Light”). These activities helped everyone communicate and cooperate with many different people. At first, some high school students felt it was hard to speak English, but they began to approach overseas university students and work together. Communication across nationalities and ages was happening everywhere. Later, at the "Welcome Dinner," university and high school students enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere, eating together and chatting happily to get to know each other better.

 In the evening, we had the last program of Day 1 called “Reflection.” During Reflection, participants wrote down their thoughts, feelings, and memorable moments from the day in their notebooks. Then, they shared what they felt and learned with their HOUSE members. At first, some students seemed a little unsure because this was a new kind of activity. But by spending 60 minutes on it, they gradually organized their thoughts and seemed to understand the importance of this time to “turn experiences into learning.”

 Day 1 was full of moments where high school students were doing their best to get used to the new environment and the unique atmosphere of HLAB. Still, their eagerness to learn shone brightly, making this day a great start with lots of promise for growth over the coming week.

【DAY2】現在地を知る

　1日目が終わり、少しずつ緊張がほぐれてきた頃。迎えた2日目からは、いよいよ本格的にプログラムがスタートしました。

　午前中は、『Talk in English』という企画から1日が始まりました。この企画は日本語をあまり使わずにたくさん英語に触れて考え、そして海外の大学生ともっと仲良くなろうという目的で行われました。英語を使ったコミュニケーションに苦戦する場面もありましたが、言語の壁を乗り越えて海外の大学生と楽しくコミュニケーションをとろうとする姿が見られ、笑顔が絶えない時間となりました。

　そして、今日からHLAB サマースクールのメイン企画の1つである『セミナー』が始まりました。セミナーとは、海外大学生と日本人大学生がペアとなって行う少人数制の授業で、計4日間かけて行います。授業は全て英語で行われ、高校生は自分の興味のある分野のセミナーを選択します。慣れない英語での授業に緊張や不安を抱えセミナー初日を迎えていましたが、日本人大学生の通訳とサポートも受けながら、積極的に質問や発言に挑戦する姿も見られたことが好印象でした。初日のセミナーでは、思うように英語が話せなかったり、英語が得意な高校生に圧倒されて自信をなくしてしまう参加者もいました。 しかし、サマースクールの4日間を通じて積極的に発言し、言語の壁を乗り越え、新たな学問の世界に飛び込み、コミュニケーションの楽しさを感じてもらいたいと思います。

　午後は『Why HLAB』という企画を行いました。「Why HLAB」では、改めてなぜHLABにやってきたのか、過去の経験を振り返ったり理想の未来を想像したりして、ペアワークを行いました。日常生活の中では、一度立ち止まって自分自身を見つめ直す機会はなかなか多くないかもしれません。だからこそ、高校生たちからは「自分の思いやこれまでの歩みを初めて言葉にできた」「忘れていた気持ちを思い出した」といった声が多く聞かれました。こうした時間を通して、これからの一歩を考えるきっかけになり、サマースクール中の各々のアクションが明確になったと思います。

　その後に行った『自己分析』の企画では、自分を取り巻く人々に「共感」「非共感」した過去の体験を軸をもとに自分自身や人との関係性について考えていきました。普段の生活ではあまり言葉にすることのない思いや感情に向き合う時間に、高校生たちも真剣に取り組んでいる様子が印象的でした。最初は「なんとなく」で捉えていた自分自身のことが、ワークショップを終えた頃にはより多様で複雑なものとして感じられ、そこに難しさを感じながらも進んでいこうという姿勢の変化がそれぞれの表情や言葉から伝わって来るように感じました。

　沢山の企画が詰まった2日目では、英語で専門的な授業を受けたり、自分自身について振り返ったりと高校生にとって様々な面で「考える」ことが求められた1日になったと思います。そんな中で、どの企画も意欲的に向き合う姿が非常に印象的でした。残りの期間で更なる成長が見られることを楽しみにしています。

 After finishing Day 1, and as the students started to feel a bit more relaxed, Day 2 began with the real start of the program.

 The morning started with an activity called Talk in English. This activity aimed to get everyone to use English as much as possible, think in English, and get closer to the overseas university students. Although there were some moments when using English was difficult, many students tried hard to overcome the language barrier and enjoyed talking with the overseas university students. It was a time full of smiles.

 Also, from today, one of the main programs of the HLAB Summer School, called Seminars started. In these seminars, overseas university students and Japanese university students work in pairs to teach small groups of high school students. The seminars last for four days. All the classes are in English, and the high school students choose seminars based on their interests. On the first day, many students felt nervous and a little worried about studying in English. But with the help of Japanese university students who interpreted and supported them, many students actively asked questions and shared their thoughts, which was very encouraging to see. Some students found it hard to speak English as they had wanted on the first day. Some even lost confidence because other students were better at English. But through the four days of seminars during the summer school, we hope many students will enjoy not only communicating actively and overcoming language barriers but also the fun of exploring new academic fields.

In the afternoon, we had an activity called why HLAB.
In this activity, participants worked in pairs to think about why they came to HLAB. They looked back on their past experiences and imagined their ideal future. In daily life, we don’t often get a chance to stop and really think about ourselves. That’s why many high school students said things like “It was the first time I put my thoughts and my journey into words,” and “I remembered feelings I had forgotten.” Throughout this time, they found a chance to think about their next steps, and I believe each student’s actions during the summer school became clearer.

 After that, we had an activity called Self-Analysis. In this activity, students thought about themselves and their relationships with others by looking at past experiences where they either “felt connected” or “did not feel connected” to the people around them. It was impressive to see how seriously the high school students engaged with feelings and thoughts they don’t usually talk about in everyday life. At first, many students understood themselves only in a vague way. But by the end of the workshop, they seemed to see themselves as more complex and diverse. Even though this felt difficult at times, their expressions and words showed a change in attitude—they wanted to keep moving forward.

Day 2 was a busy day full of many activities. The high school students were asked to “think” in many ways — taking specialized classes in English and reflecting on themselves. What stood out the most was how actively and enthusiastically they took on every activity. We look forward to seeing even more growth from them during the rest of the program.

【DAY3】みんなそしてその場所を知ろう

　2日目に引き続き、3日目も高校生たちは「セミナー」からスタートを切りました。セミナー初日は緊張していた高校生も少しずつ環境に慣れ始め、自分から質問に挑戦する姿も見られました。

　午後は、HLAB サマースクールの主要プログラムの1つである『フォーラム』が開催されました。国際政治学を専門に研究されている、早稲田大学政治経済学術院教授の多湖淳先生をゲストとしてお招きし、ご講演いただきました。戦争が起こるメカニズムを科学的に分析する手法や、安全保障の基盤と平和についてお話しいただきました。研究の最前線でご活躍されている先生を前に、高校生たちは熱心にメモを取ったり、質疑応答の時間には積極的に質問したりする姿も見られました。高校生からは「普段は考えないようなテーマに触れることができて新鮮だった」、「批判的思考という話が自分の中には無かった考え方で印象に残った」という感想がありました。「世界の出来事を自分ごととして捉えていきたい」といった考え方の変化も見られ、高校生が自身の進路をより深く考えるきっかけにもなったようです。

　フォーラムの後は、小布施町中心部にある皇大神社にて、『OBUSE Festival』が開催されました。地域の皆様にもご協力いただき、コロナ禍を経て、OBUSE サマースクールの人気企画であったお祭り企画を6年ぶりに復活させることができました。高校生たちは色鮮やかな浴衣に身を包み、小布施町の「くりんこ音頭」に合わせて踊ったり、屋台を回ったりして、夏ならではのイベントを楽しんでいました。日本、そして地域の文化を体験することで、海外大生と高校生、そして地域の方との交流も深まる貴重な時間となりました。

　OBUSE Festivalの終了後、高校生たちは小布施町内の各ご家庭に『ホームステイ』をさせていただきました。ホームステイ受け入れご家庭の皆様と高校生が食卓を囲み、アットホームな雰囲気の中で、高校生それぞれの出身地や、今熱中していることについてお話をしていました。高校生を家族の一員のように受け入れていただき、地元の方々のあたたかさに包まれた時間でした。

　Day3は、フォーラム、OBUSE Festival、そしてホームステイと、鮮やかな企画が盛り沢山の1日でした。初めて触れる学問や小布施の文化、どれも高校生たちにとって楽しく、新しい発見となったようです。

Day 2 and Day 3 also started with the Seminars.
The high school students who were nervous on the first day of the seminars began to get used to the environment, and some even started to ask questions on their own.

In the afternoon, one of the main programs of the HLAB Summer School, the Forum, was held. We invited Professor Jun Tago from Waseda University’s School of Political Science and Economics as a guest speaker. He specializes in international political science. He gave a lecture about scientific ways to analyze how wars happen, and he talked about the foundation of security and peace. Facing a leading researcher in the field, the high school students took notes carefully and actively asked questions during the Q&A session. Some students said things like “It was refreshing to engage with themes we don’t usually think about” and “The idea of critical thinking was new to me and left a strong impression” sharing that these ideas were new and left a strong impression on them.
There were also changes in their thinking, such as “I want to view global events as personal matters” which helped the students think more deeply about their future paths.

 After the forum, the OBUSE Festival was held at the Kōtai Shrine in the center of Obuse Town. With the support of the local community, we were able to bring back this popular summer school event for the first time in six years, after the COVID-19 pandemic. The high school students wore colorful yukatas and enjoyed dancing to the “Kurinko Ondo,” a local Obuse dance, and visiting food stalls. It was a special summer event full of fun. By experiencing Japanese and local culture, this event became a valuable time for interaction between overseas university students, high school students, and local people.

 After the OBUSE Festival ended, the high school students stayed with local families in Obuse Town for a homestay. The students and their host families gathered around the dinner table, sharing a warm and friendly atmosphere. The students talked about where they come from and what they are passionate about right now.
The host families welcomed the students like part of their own family, creating a time full of the local people’s kindness and warmth.

 Day 3 was full of exciting programs like the Forum, the OBUSE Festival, and the homestay. The new academic experiences and the local culture of Obuse were all enjoyable and brought many new discoveries for the high school students.

【DAY4】共創しよう

　4日目を迎えた今日、高校生はそれぞれのホームステイ先で朝を迎えました。温かく受け入れてくださった小布施のご家庭の方々との交流は、地域やそこに住む人びとについて知ることのできる、貴重な時間となりました。

　午前中は、海外大生主導の企画である『GBs Session』を行いました。サマースクール開始直後は、英語でのコミュニケーションに苦戦している高校生の様子も見られましたが、英語でのセミナーや、海外大生との交流などを通して、日に日に英語力が成長している様子が伝わってきます。4日目となる今日は、アクティビティの説明が英語で行われたこの企画においても、積極的に英語でのコミュニケーションに挑戦している姿が印象的でした。高校生からは、「様々なアクティビティに積極的に挑戦することができた」という感想があり、普段のセミナーとは一味違うこの企画を楽しむことができたようでした。

　午後は、地域の社会課題の原因を特定し、その解決策を共創することを目的とした『地域課題解決企画』を行いました。企画のゴールである、社会課題の原因を突き止めること、またそれに対する提言を行うために、高校生は各自の役割に真剣に取り組んでいました。小布施町唯一の味噌醸造所である穀平味噌醸造場様に伺い、味噌づくりを体験したグループでは、地域に根ざした産業についてお話を聞いたり、実際に自分たちで味噌づくりの工程を体験したりする中で、伝統を守りつつも、変化する社会の中でも持続可能な産業について考える時間となりました。

　その後は、小布施町にゆかりのある方を中心に、様々な職業分野でご活躍する社会人ゲストと高校生が少人数のグループで語り合う、『フリーインタラクション』を行いました。進路や職業の話題を中心に、多様なご経験をしてきた社会人ゲストと高校生が真剣に語り合う姿が印象的でした。高校生はゲストの皆さんとの対話を通して、自分の将来のビジョンの広がりを実感できる時間となったようです。

　一週間のサマースクールもいよいよ折り返し。残りの期間で、高校生の皆さんのさらなる成長が見られることを楽しみにしています。

 On Day 4, the high school students woke up at their respective homestay families' homes. The warm welcome from the families in Obuse gave the students a valuable chance to learn about the local community and the people who live there.

 In the morning, we held the GBs Session, a program led by the overseas university students. At the start of the summer school, some high school students struggled with communicating in English. But through the seminars and interacting with the overseas students, their English skills have been impro

ving day by day.
On Day 4, during the “GBs Session” where most activities were conducted in English, many students actively tried to communicate in English, which was very impressive. Some students said that they were able to actively take on a variety of activities during this program, which offered a different experience from the usual seminars.

 In the afternoon, we held a program called Community Issue Solving, aimed at identifying local social problems and co-creating solutions.
To reach the goal of finding the causes of social issues and making suggestions, the high school students took their roles seriously and worked hard. One group visited the only miso brewery in Obuse Town, the Kokubira Miso Brewery. They learned about this local industry rooted in the community and experienced the process of making miso themselves.
This was a valuable time to think about how to keep traditions alive while creating a sustainable industry in a changing society.

After that, we held a program called Free Interaction, where small groups of high school students talked with working professionals connected to Obuse Town from various fields.
The discussions mainly focused on future career paths and jobs. It was impressive to see the serious and thoughtful conversations between the students and the guests, who have diverse experiences.
Through these talks, the high school students seemed to feel their vision for the future growing wider.

We have now reached the halfway point of the one-week summer school.
We look forward to seeing even more growth from all the high school students in the coming days.

【DAY5】共創しよう

　DAY5はDAY3に引き続きセミナーから始まりました。セミナー内でのコミュニケーションが日を追うごとに徐々に活発になり、ディスカッションをする時間もだんだんと長く濃くなっています。

　午後は『特権と周縁』という企画を行いました。この企画では、参加者が日常生活で社会における自分の立ち位置を把握し、自分の「当たり前」を見つめ直し、他者の「当たり前」を想像する機会になりました。序盤は概念的な説明が多く、高校生が難しさを感じている様子も見られましたが、ワークを進めるなかで自分の経験を具体例に落とし込み、より理解を深めることができたようでした。そして、自分の置かれている環境を当たり前だと思わず、常に「問い」を持ち続ける大切さを学びました。

　続いての企画では、株式会社ドコモgacco EduWork事業開発室長、山田 崇様との共同企画であるテーマトークを行いました。アイスブレイクでは気持ちを色や物で表現し、共有するアクティビティを行い、多様な意見が飛び交いました。メインの企画では、「小布施」についてどのようにとらえているのか体と頭を使って考えました。小布施はどんな町か、小布施でどんなことをしたいかについて、高校生と大学生が様々な意見を交わしました。

　その後は、DAY4に引き続き『フリーインタラクション』を行いました。DAY4とは異なるゲストをお迎えしたフリーインタラクションでは、昨日より積極的にゲストに質問をする高校生たちの姿勢が印象的でした。「もっと色々な質問をしたい」と次第に前のめりになっていく高校生は、将来への展望やゲストへの憧れのまなざしであふれていました。2日間のフリーインタラクションを通して、高校生は自分の将来の展望について真剣に考えることができたようでした。

　そして最後の企画としてリフレクションを行いました。今日は自分の過去や意見をより深く考える時間や、また、各々が考えたことを言語化して他人に伝える時間も多く、学びが体系化された一日でした。インプットとアウトプットの両面で学びが多い一日となり、高校生は非常に刺激的な時間を過ごしたようでした。

Day 5 started with seminars, continuing from Day3. Communication during the seminars has been getting more active each day, and the time spent on discussions has gradually become longer and deeper.

 In the afternoon, we held an activity called Privilege and Margins. This activity gave participants a chance to understand their place in society in daily life, to reflect on their own “normal,” and to imagine others’ “normal.”
At first, there were many abstract explanations, and some high school students seemed to find it difficult. But as they worked through the activities, they connected the ideas to their own experiences and deepened their understanding. They also learned the importance of not taking their own environment for granted and always asking questions.

 Next, we held a themed talk in collaboration with Mr. Takashi Yamada, Director of Business Development at Docomo gacco EduWork. At the beginning, we did an ice-break activity. We shared our feelings using colors and objects. Many different ideas came out. In the main part, we thought about “Obuse” with both our minds and bodies. We talked about what kind of town Obuse is, and what we want to do there. High school and university students shared many different opinions.

 After that, continuing from Day 4, we held another Free Interaction.
This time, we welcomed different guests. Compared to the previous day, it was impressive to see the high school students asking more questions actively. Some students became more eager, saying, “I want to ask even more questions.” Their eyes showed excitement about their future and admiration for the guests. Through these two days of Free Interaction, the high school students were able to seriously think about their future paths.

 And finally, we held a Reflection session as the last activity. Today was filled with time to think deeply about one's own past and opinions, as well as time to express those thoughts and share them with others. It was a day when the learning became more organized and meaningful. With both input and output, the students experienced a very stimulating and enriching time.

【DAY6】将来の旅路を描こう

　ついにサマースクールも残すところあと二日。高校生たちの表情からも、楽しかった時間の終わりが近づいていることを、少しずつ実感している様子が伝わってきます。笑い合い、語り合い、悩みながら過ごしたこの一週間近くの時間。そのひとつひとつがかけがえのない時間だったことを、みんなが改めて感じ始めているようでした。

　4日間に及んだセミナーも今日で最終日となりました。セミナー初回では、英語への不安を口にしていたり、周りの人と比較してしまったりする様子もありました。しかし毎日のセミナーを通してその不安感が楽しさへ変化し、最終日のセミナーでは、高校生は非常に自信に満ち溢れ、そして言語に対する壁もなくなっているように感じられました。「難しかったけど、英語で話すことが楽しいと思えた」「言いたいことがうまく伝えられた時、すごく嬉しかった」そんな声も多く聞かれ、これまで教科の1つとしての英語を学んできた高校生たちにとって、英語で自分の関心のあるテーマについて学び、議論するという体験は、大きな刺激となったように思います。

　昼食後には、サマースクールの中でも毎年特に盛り上がる企画、『タレントショー』が行われました。この企画では、ダンスや歌などをはじめとし、自分の特技や好きなことなど、ジャンルを問わず何でも披露できるステージが用意されています。舞台の上では、サマースクールを通して出会った仲間たちと息を合わせてパフォーマンスする姿や、ひとりで堂々と特技を披露する高校生の姿もありました。中には、これまで人前に出るのが苦手だったという高校生も勇気を出して発表しており、企画が始まる前は少し緊張した空気が流れていたものの、時間が経つにつれて会場は温かい雰囲気に包まれていきました。きっとこの日、ステージに立った経験は高校生にとって忘れられない時間になったのではないでしょうか。

　サマースクール最後の夜、最後のリフレクションとなったこの日は、初日のリフレクションとは大きく異なり、今では高校生たちが自分の考えを積極的に言葉にし、相手の気持ちにもしっかりと思いを寄せる姿が見られるようになっていました。この6日間で、自分はどのように変化したのか。何を感じ、何を学び、これからどんな行動をしていきたいのか。そんな問いを自分自身に投げかけながら、最終日である明日、そしてその先の未来に向けて、一人ひとりが長期的な視点でじっくりと振り返る時間となりました。
　残りわずか1日となったこの時間を、一瞬たりとも無駄にしたくないという想いが伝わってくるような、真剣なまなざしと向き合う姿勢がとても印象的でした。

Now, there are only two days left in the summer school. From the students’ faces, you can see they are slowly realizing that this fun time is coming to an end. They have spent nearly a week laughing, talking, and sometimes worrying together. It seems that everyone is starting to feel again how precious each of those moments has been.

 The four-day seminar came to an end today. At the beginning, some students expressed worries about using English and sometimes compared themselves to others. But through the daily seminars, their worries turned into enjoyment. On the final day, the high school students seemed full of confidence and comfortable with the language barrier disappearing. Many students said things like, “It was difficult, but I enjoyed speaking in English,” and “I was really happy when I could express what I wanted to say well.”
For these students, who have learned English mainly as a school subject until now, the experience of studying and discussing topics they care about in English was a big motivation.

 After lunch, one of the most exciting events of the summer school, the Talent Show, took place. In this event, students had the chance to show off any talent or hobby, like dancing and singing . On stage, some students performed with friends they met during the summer school, while others confidently showed their skills alone. Some students who were usually shy about being in front of people found the courage to perform. Although there was a bit of nervousness before the show started, the atmosphere became warm and friendly as time went on. This experience of standing on stage will surely be an unforgettable moment for many of the students.

 On the last night of the summer school, we had the final reflection time around a campfire. This reflection was very different from the first day. Now, the high school students actively expressed their thoughts and showed care for others’ feelings. During these past six days, they asked themselves questions like: How have I changed? What did I feel and learn? What kind of actions do I want to take from now on? As they reflected deeply with a long-term view, this time became a chance to prepare for the final day tomorrow and for the future ahead.

 With only one day left, it was very impressive to see the students’ serious faces and attitudes, showing that they didn’t want to waste a single moment of this time.

【DAY７】旅立とう

　1週間のサマースクールもついに最終日を迎えました。

　午前中は、『ビジョンワークショップ』を行いました。この企画ではこれまでサマースクールで学んだことを振り返り、参加前と参加後の変化や発見を言語化しました。そして、様々な刺激を受けたこのサマースクールでの経験をどのように将来に生かすのかについて考えました。高校生からは「時間の使い方について見直すことができた」「来週、来月という身近なところから考えたのでプランを実践できそう」というような声が聞こえ、真剣に自分の経験と将来に向き合う姿が見受けられました。

　 サマースクール期間中最後の食事の時間となったお昼には、『フェアウェルランチ』が実施されました。いよいよ残り数時間でサマースクールが終わってしまうことを実感し、期間中の思い出を振り返りながら食事を楽しむ高校生の様子が見られました。

　そしてついにサマースクール最後の企画である『出発式』を迎えました。1週間を終えた今、これからの自分の旅路をどう描いていくのか、自分自身や仲間と向き合い「出発」するための時間です。開催地である小布施町を代表し、町長の大宮透様からご挨拶をいただきました。さらに、1週間の思い出の詰まった「エンディング・ムービー」を全員で鑑賞しました。期間中の楽しかった一コマが映し出されると会場が笑いの渦に包まれ、ハウスで協力して企画をやり遂げた場面が映し出されると、その時のことを思い出し思わず涙ぐむ高校生の姿も。そして、サマースクールの大学生実行委員長、海外大学生代表、高校生参加者代表のスピーチがありました。大学生から高校生参加者に向けたエールと、高校生が堂々と決意表明をする姿はとても力強いものでした。スピーチを聞く高校生1人ひとりの姿からも、互いを受け入れリスペクトの拍手を送り合う、とても成長した姿が見られました。
　続いて、1週間のプログラムを終えた高校生参加者に修了証の授与が行われました。この7日間で絆を深めたハウスごとステージに上がり、各ハウスのメンターから高校生参加者1人1人に向けた熱い言葉と共に、修了証が授与されました。今までの感謝の想いや成長が溢れる、温かく感動的な時間となりました。

　いよいよ出発の時間です。多くの時間を過ごした小布施町役場を出て、メンターや高校生同士で涙を流しながら抱き合う姿が多く見られました。メンターが作るハンドアーチを進んでいく高校生たちは、初日に出会った時の不安な様子から一変し、前向きで自信に満ちた、輝いた表情を見せてくれました。

　　“Co-create Our Journeysー共創しよう、みんなの旅路ー” 
こうして、HLAB OBUSE 2025が幕を閉じました。約100名の旅路が交わり、寝食を共にしながら学びあったこの1週間は、参加者全員にとって、きっと忘れられない大きな財産になったはずです。
　このサマースクールでの経験を胸に、高校生参加者、そして大学生運営委員は新たな一歩を踏み出します。それぞれが進んでいく旅路は違いますが、これからも共創しあえる仲間でありますように。みんな、いってらっしゃい！

　最後になりますが、この場をお借りして、HLAB OBUSE 2025 サマースクールの開催にご尽力いただいたすべての皆様に改めて感謝を申し上げます。

 The summer school has finally reached its last day.

  In the morning, we held a Vision Workshop. In this session, students looked back on what they had learned throughout the summer school, and put into words how they had changed and what they had discovered since the program began. They also reflected on how to make use of the many experiences and inspirations they had gained during the week in their future lives. From the students, we heard comments such as, “I was able to reflect on how I use my time.” and “Since I started by thinking about the near future—like next week or next month—I feel like I can actually put the plan into action.” We could see them seriously facing their experiences and thinking deeply about their future.

 At lunchtime, the last meal of the summer school, the Farewell Lunch took place. As the students realized that the summer school would end in just a few hours, they enjoyed their meal while looking back on their memories from the program.

 Finally, we reached the last event of the summer school, the Departure Ceremony. After finishing the week, this was a time for students to face themselves and their friends and think about how they want to shape their journey ahead. On behalf of Obuse Town, Mayor Toru Omiya gave a greeting.
Then, everyone watched the “Ending Movie” full of memories from the week. When fun moments were shown, the room was filled with laughter. When scenes of the houses working together appeared, some students were moved to tears as they remembered those times. There were speeches from the summer school’s university student chairperson, the overseas university student representative, and a high school student representative. The cheers of the university students and the high school students’ confident declarations of determination were very powerful. You could see how much the students had grown by the way they listened to the speeches and applauded each other with respect and acceptance.

 Next, the high school participants who completed the one-week program received their certificates. Each house, having deepened their bonds over the week, came up on stage. Their mentors gave warm and encouraging words to each student as they received their certificates. It was a heartfelt and moving time, full of gratitude and growth.

 It was finally time to say goodbye. As they left Obuse Town Hall, where they had spent so much time, many mentors and high school students hugged each other with tears. Walking through the hand arches made by their mentors, the students showed bright and confident faces, very different from the nervous expressions they had on the first day.

 “Co-create Our Journeys” — this is how HLAB OBUSE 2025 came to a close. About 100 journeys crossed paths, and spending a week living and learning together surely became an unforgettable and valuable experience for all participants. With the memories from this summer school in their hearts, the high school participants and university student organizers take their next steps forward. Their journeys may be different, but we hope they will always remain friends who can co-create together.
