戊辰（つちのえ・たつ）

今日のエッセイ

夏至を過ぎて、一年でいちばん昼の長い季節になりました。

富士山麓は今、緑が極まる頃です。

今日は戊辰。大地の上を龍が昇る、土の重なる日です。

草も木も、足元の土に根を張って、それからまっすぐ天へ伸びていきます。

地に足をつけてこそ、高く昇れるのだと、田んぼの稲が教えてくれているようです。

今日の短歌

夏至すぎて
みどり極まる
富士の裾
土はゆたかに
龍を抱けり

それでは、よい一日のはじまりを。

Today's Essay

The summer solstice has passed, and now the days are at their longest.
Here at the foot of Mount Fuji, the green has reached its fullest.
Today is Tsuchinoe-Tatsu — a day of doubled earth, when the dragon climbs above the soil.
Grass and trees take root in the ground beneath them, and only then rise straight toward the sky.
It is by standing firm on the earth that we can climb high — so the rice in the paddies seems to teach.

Today's Tanka

Past the solstice now,
the green has reached its fullest
round Mount Fuji's hem —
the earth, grown rich and generous,
cradles a dragon within.
And so — to the beginning of a good day.
