第4回 学びは人をつくる
コメニウスの願いは、
学びを通して人を育てることにあった。
彼は、
人が成長するには順序があると考えた。
幼い子どもには、
身近なものから教える。
成長に合わせて、
少しずつ世界を広げていく。
その考えをもとに、
「すべての教育には段階がある」
という理論をまとめた。
この考えは、
今の学校教育の基礎にもなっている。
小学校、中学校、高校と
学びの順序を大切にする仕組みは、
コメニウスの思想から始まった。
また、
彼は教える側にも
大切な心がけがあると書き残した。
教師は、
知識を押しつけるのではなく、
子どもの中にある力を
引き出す存在であるべきだと。
彼の本には、
「学びは喜びでなければならない」
という言葉がある。
叱ることではなく、
理解を助けること。
比べることではなく、
成長を見守ること。
それが本当の教育だと
コメニウスは信じていた。
彼の教えは、
400年をこえて今も受け継がれている。
それは、
学ぶことで人は自分を知り、
世界とつながっていくという
普遍の真理を示している。
学びは、
人をつくる力であり、
社会を支える土台である。
そして、
その一歩を開いたのが
コメニウスだった。

Comenius’s true wish
was to nurture people
through the act of learning.
He believed every human being
grows in natural stages.
Young children should first learn
from the world close to them.
As they mature, their lessons
should slowly expand outward.
From this idea he shaped the theory:
“Education must have steps.”
That thought became the root
of today’s school system—
elementary, middle, and high—
a path that honors growth.
He also wrote about the heart
of those who teach.
A teacher must not force knowledge,
but draw forth the strength
already living within each child.
In his book appears this line:
“Learning must be a joy.”
Not to scold,
but to help understanding.
Not to compare,
but to watch each child grow.
That, he believed,
is what true education means.
His teaching has been passed on
for over four hundred years.
It tells us still that through learning,
people come to know themselves,
and connect with the greater world.
Learning builds the person,
and supports the society.
And the one who opened that path
was Comenius.
