給湯器故障がくれた贈り物【ハッピーライティングマラソン #8】

いつか読んだ方が良さそうだなぁ・・・と思っていたこの二冊の本です。
健さんの読書日記の記事で見た瞬間、直感的に「今の私が必要としているものが秘められているかもしれない」と感じました。

“願いを視覚化していた” と氣づいた瞬間

実は前回のお題「２０代に読んで感動した本」（逃さなかった二度のラストチャンス）について書きながら、ハッっとしたんです。

大学の廊下にあるガラスケースの前で、奨学金受給者としての自分の名前を見つけて飛び跳ねる——その場面を私は繰り返し頭の中で鮮明に描いていたのです。誰に教わるでもなく、数十年前の私は “引き寄せ” を既に体験していたのですね。

そしてこの二冊の本が、私の「引き寄せの法則」の理解をさまざまな角度から深めてくれました。

トラブルに隠れていた贈り物

そんなある日、給湯器が壊れてしまいました。シャワーを浴びようとしていた長男が、バスルームから叫びました。
「おかーさーん、どうしてお湯が出ないの？」
その声を聞いた瞬間、嫌な予感がしました。

調べてみると、アメリカでは給湯器は年に一度お手入れをしなければならないことを知り、真っ青になりました。本来なら、定期点検さえしていれば二十年近く持つはずでした。そう思うと、自分を責めたくなりました。もしも修理ができない場合、新しいものを取り付けてもらうためには数千ドルかかります。

でも、こうなったらこの二冊から受け取った教えを信じるしかない！とすぐに氣持ちを切り替えました。早速 Yelp で業者の検索開始。10社以上と連絡を取り合った後、見積もり額ではなく直感で Justin (仮名です）に決めました。

Justin が数時間後に来てくれることが決まり、私は Universe に祈りました。心配やネガティブな感情は捨て、二冊の本を想いながら「Justin が必ず給湯器を直してくれる。Justin にならできる。絶対にできる。うまくいく！」と声に出して宣言しました。無事に修理が終わって喜んでいる私の姿を想像しました。

修理成功と涙のハグ

Justin は電話で話したときのように氣さくで、すぐに安心できる人でした。一緒にいても良いと言われたので、ずっとそばにいて彼がすることを見たり、手伝ったりしました。見守ること約２時間。エラーなしでお湯が出るようになりました。

小切手を Justin に渡しながら、堪えきれず涙が流れてしまいました。安堵と感謝の氣持ちが溢れ出てしまったんです。驚いた Justin はすぐにサイドハグをしてくれました。

それから私たちは、30分近く立ち話をしました。私が今どんな状態なのかなどを話しているうちに、お互いとてもスピリチュアルで似たような情熱を持っていることがわかりました。そして Justin が言いました。

突然 Justin に『ザ・シークレット』を観ることを勧められ、前日にその本を読み終わったばかりだったことを伝えました。

この瞬間私たちは、これが偶然ではないことを感じとりました。何も言わなくても、わかっていました。

Justin は 『ザ・シークレット』に出てくるほとんどの人たちと実際に会ったことがあると話してくれました。

ナポレオン・ヒルでもシンクロニシティ

少ししてから Justin が言いました。

Justin の口から今度はナポレオン・ヒルの名前も出てくると、「『思考は現実化する』のことなら、今読んでます！」と私は興奮気味に言ったのでした。

この出逢いは必然だった、Universe はもうすでに私に応えてくれている、応援してくれている、と心の中で確認できました。

Justin は私より10歳くらい年上でしょうか？なんだかお兄さんができたような、メンターができたような、とにかく有り難く、嬉しく、愉快な出来事でした。

とにかく信じること

何事も前向きに捉えれば、思いがけない出来事さえ“嬉しい贈り物”に変わる──そんなことを改めて実感しました。

この体験で“引き寄せの法則”への信頼はさらに深まりました。

Two Books That Had Been on My Mind

These are two books I’d been telling myself to read “someday.” When I spotted them in Ken-san’s reading diary posts, something clicked—I felt they might hold exactly what I needed right then.

The Moment I Realized I’d Been “Visualizing” All Along

While I was drafting the previous post—“A book that moved you in your twenties”—a lightbulb went on.

Back in college, I used to picture myself standing in front of a hallway display case, spotting my name as the only scholarship recipient, and jumping for joy. No one taught me that trick, yet decades ago I was already experiencing the Law of Attraction.

These two books have since deepened my understanding of that law from every angle.

A Gift Hidden in Trouble

One day, our water heater stopped working. I heard my older son shout from the bathroom, “Oka-san, why isn’t the water getting hot?”
Hearing his voice, I felt a sudden pang of dread.

I quickly discovered that heaters in the U.S. need yearly maintenance, and my heart sank. Ours should last nearly twenty years with regular check-ups. The thought of a replacement costing several thousand dollars made me feel awful.

Then it hit me: this was the perfect chance to put the books’ lessons into practice. I went to Yelp, contacted more than ten companies, and went with Justin (a pseudonym) purely on a gut feeling, not on price.

Justin could be here in a few hours. I prayed to the Universe, pushed aside worry, and declared out loud, “Justin will fix this heater. He can do it. It will work.” I pictured myself celebrating the repair.

A Successful Fix—and Tears of Relief

Justin was as warm in person as on the phone. He let me watch and help while he worked. About two hours later, the hot water was back.

As I handed him the check, tears spilled over—relief and gratitude I just couldn’t hold back. Looking surprised, he gave me a quick side hug.

We ended up chatting for nearly half an hour. As I told him what had been going on in my life, we discovered we were both deeply spiritual and shared similar passions. Then Justin said:

We both knew instantly this wasn’t mere coincidence. Justin even told me he’d met most of the people featured in The Secret.

More Synchronicity with Napoleon Hill

A moment later, Justin went on:

That sealed it for me: the Universe was already responding and cheering me on. Justin—about ten years my senior—felt like an instant big brother and mentor. I was nothing but grateful and thrilled.

Simply Trust

This reminded me that a positive outlook can turn even the unexpected into a welcome gift.

The experience deepened my faith in the Law of Attraction.
