Prince's taste for dog

メアリー王太子妃の義父にあたるデンマークのヘンリック殿下が、犬の肉を好むことについて語りました。
Princess Mary's royal father-in-law Prince Henrik of Denmark has spoken of his taste for dog meat.

デンマークの王配であり、メアリー王太子妃の夫フレデリック王太子の父でもあるヘンリック殿下は、犬の肉の味を柔らかい仔牛肉に例えています。
Prince Henrik, the Prince Consort of Denmark and father of Mary's husband Prince Frederik, has likened the flavour of dog meat to tender veal.

ヘンリック殿下は昨日、デンマークの雑誌『Ud...Se』に対し、「犬の肉はウサギの肉のような味がする」と語りました。
"Dog meat tastes like rabbit," Prince Henrik told the Danish magazine Ud...Se yesterday.

「干した子ヤギの肉のようだ。いや、そうだな……仔牛の肉、それもまだ母乳を飲んでいるような幼い仔牛の肉に似ている。ただ、それよりもっと乾燥しているがね」
"Like dried baby goat. Or perhaps - I know - like veal, like the veal of a baby suckling calf, only drier."

こうした見解は、デンマーク・ダックスフント・クラブの名誉会長という彼の立場とは、少々相容れないものかもしれない。なにしろ彼は、愛するダックスフントたちへの愛情から詩を詠むほどだったのだから。
These views may be somewhat at odds to his status as honorary president of the Danish Dachshund Club, and whose love of his pet dachshunds had moved him to poetry.

「君の毛をなで、それが滑らかに整うのを見るのが大好きだよ。愛しいエヴィータ、僕にとって本当に特別な存在だ」。これは彼が愛犬エヴィータに捧げた詩の一節ですが、翻訳の過程で多少のニュアンスが失われているかもしれません。
"I love to stroke your fur, And to see it fall smooth, You dear dog, so special to me," his ode to his pet Evita read, although a little may have been lost in translation.

また別のインタビューでは、ダックスフントに生まれ変わりたいと語ったとも伝えられています。
In another interview, he reportedly said he would like to be reborn as a dachshund.

ヘンリック殿下は、アンリ・マリ・ジャン・アンドレ・ド・ラボルド・ド・モンペザ伯爵として生まれ、幼少期の最初の5年間をベトナムで過ごしました。当時、彼の父親はそこで一族の事業である産業関連の会社を経営していました。
Prince Henrik was born Henri Marie Jean Andre Count de Laborde de Monpezat and lived the first five years of his life in Vietnam, where his father ran the family's industrial business.

ヘンリック殿下（マルグレーテ女王との結婚に際し、デンマーク語の綴りの名前を採用された）が犬肉を好むのは、犬肉が日常的に食されるベトナムでの経験によるものだと考えられていました。
It was thought Prince Henrik's (he took the Danish form of the name upon marrying Queen Margrethe) love of dog meat may be a result of the Vietnamese experience, as dog meat is commonly eaten there.

「犬肉を食べることに何ら抵抗はありません」とヘンリック殿下は語りました。
"I've got no qualms about eating dog meat," Prince Henrik said.

これらの犬は、鶏と同じように、食用として飼育されています。
"These dogs are bred to be eaten, just like chickens."
