フルーリュー半島とクーロン地域では、在来の野生生物を保護するため、野良猫駆除プログラムが開始され、猫の飼い主に対し、ペットをきちんと囲いの中に閉じ込めておくよう呼びかけられています。
Cat owners across the Fleurieu Peninsula and Coorong are being urged to keep their pets contained as a feral cat control program gets underway to protect native wildlife.

ヒルズ・アンド・フルーリュー景観委員会によると、外来捕食動物による被害を軽減するための連携した取り組みの一環として、沿岸部や湿地帯の複数の地域で、現在、集中的な捕獲活動が実施されています。
The Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board says targeted trapping is now underway across several coastal and wetland areas as part of a coordinated effort to reduce pressure from introduced predators.

野良猫は、海岸に営巣する鳥類、爬虫類、小型哺乳類を脅かし、この地域の野生生物の個体数減少や繁殖成功率の低下の一因となっていることが知られています。
Feral cats are known to threaten beach-nesting birds, reptiles and small mammals, contributing to declining wildlife populations and reduced breeding success in the region.

このプログラムは、キャリカリンガ、ラピッドベイ、ウィリナ、ヤンカリラ、エンカウンターベイ、ビクターハーバー、ウェイトピンガ、グールワ、ミラン、トルデロール、ヒンドマーシュ島で実施されており、今後さらに多くの地域が追加される予定です。
The program is being delivered in Carrickalinga, Rapid Bay, Wirrina, Yankalilla, Encounter Bay, Victor Harbor, Waitpinga, Goolwa, Milang, Tolderol and Hindmarsh Island, with more locations expected to be added.

このプログラムは野良動物を対象としていますが、景観委員会は、徘徊する飼い猫が誤って罠にかかる可能性があると述べています。
While the focus of the program is on feral animals, the Landscape Board says roaming domestic cats could be accidentally caught in traps.

住民の皆様には、飼い猫を敷地内に留め、マイクロチップを装着し、首輪を着用させることを強く推奨しています。
Residents are being strongly encouraged to keep their cats confined to their property and ensure they are microchipped and wearing a collar.

この広範なプロジェクトには、餌付けや射殺によるキツネの駆除も含まれており、絶滅危惧種の野生生物を保護し、フルーリュー半島沿岸部と湿地帯の生態系を強化することを目的としています。
The broader project also includes fox control through baiting and shooting, with the aim of protecting vulnerable wildlife and strengthening ecosystems along the Fleurieu coast and wetlands.

このプログラムはオーストラリア政府の資金援助を受け、ヒルズ・アンド・フルーリュー景観委員会が地方自治体や自然保護団体と連携して実施しています。
The program is funded by the Australian Government and delivered by the Hills and Fleurieu Landscape Board in partnership with local councils and conservation groups.
