Like many other towns and cities, it is dealing with a flood of feral and stray felines each year.

Challenges with containment

Support for containment laws among local governments in the state is strong, with at least 80 in favour of permanent containment for pet cats, according to a WA Feral Cat Working Group survey released last month.

But attempts to introduce stricter local laws have fallen foul of state parliament, which has oversight of the regulation local governments attempt to introduce.
