【中大軟式野球】“Club Introduction”　Chuo's rubber baseball club “Lafrance” wins intercollegiate rookie tournament　中央大軟式野球サークル「ラフランス」大学対抗新人戦で見事優勝

　　Chuo University’s rubber baseball club “Lafrance” captured the championship in the rookie tournament in December 2025, competed by five teams from four universities. Their impressive performances attracted a great deal of attention. Kotaro Taniguchi (first-grader, Faculty of Science and Engineering) who was named MVP in the tournament and Shion Masaki (second-grader, Faculty of Law), who is in charge of general affairs in the club, said in unison about their feat, “We just wanted everyone of us to enjoy playing baseball together.”

　中央大学軟式野球サークル「ラフランス（Lafrance）」が2025年12月、4大学5チーム対抗の新人戦で見事優勝を果たし、その活躍ぶりに注目が集まっている。
この大会でMVPに選ばれた谷口航太郎さん（理工学部1年）と、サークルで総務を務める正木志さん（法学部2年）は、この結果について口をそろえて「みんなで野球を楽しみたいと思っていただけです」と語った。

Starting with just nine members
　　Chuo University students run many circles and clubs. A variety of clubs are active at its downtown campuses, where the Faculties of Law, Science and Engineering, and Global Informatics are located. Lafrance, led by Shinnosuke Tokuda (second-grader, Faculty of Law), was initially active at the Tama Campus in Hachioji City, away from downtown Tokyo. But because many of its members belong to the Faculty of Law, the club moved its base to the Myogadani Campus in 2024. Immediately after the move, however, the club faced a shortage of members, even unable to have nine players required for games. By managing to actively participate in games and tournaments on and off campus later on, they gained recognition and the number of members soon swelled to 69.

中央大学では現役学生による多くのサークルや部が活動している。法学部、理工学部、国際情報学部が集まる都心キャンパスでもさまざまな団体が活動している。
徳田新之助さん（法学部2年）が率いるラフランスは、もともと都心から離れた八王子市の多摩キャンパスを拠点に活動していた。しかし部員の多くが法学部生だったことから、2024年に茗荷谷キャンパスへ拠点を移した。移転直後は部員数が少なく、試合に必要な9人すらそろわない状況だったという。それでも学内外の試合や大会に積極的に参加することで次第に名前が知られるようになり、部員数は69人まで増えた。

　　Masaki said, “I played baseball in my junior high school. When I entered Chuo, I wanted to play it again. Lafrance was the only baseball club with many law students based at the downtown campus, so I joined it.” He managed the club and actively recruited new members. He added, “We now actively hold events like training sessions, tournament participation, and training camps, valuing both competition and mutual interaction.” Leveraging its strength as one of the few rubber baseball clubs based at the downtown campus, the club has been steadily building up its presence.

　正木さんは「中学時代に野球をしていました。大学に入学してもう一度プレーしたいと思っていたところ、都心キャンパスを拠点とし、法学部生が多い野球サークルがラフランスだけだったこともあり、入部しました」と語る。
正木さんはサークル運営や新入生勧誘にも積極的に関わり、「練習や大会出場はもちろん、合宿などのイベントも盛んに行っており、競技面と交流の両立を大切にしています」と話した。都心キャンパスで活動する数少ない軟式野球サークルという強みを生かし、着実に存在感を高めている。

Unbeaten in tournament
The “Athlead Field Baseball Festa 2025 Rookie Tournament,” won by Lafrance, was organized by Athlead, a company specializing in planning and operating various sports events. It was held on December 6 and 7, 2025, in Hasaki, Ibaraki Prefecture. The tournament, held in a league format, was competed by five teams: Aoyama Gakuin University's “Angels,” Toyo University's “RODGERS,” Nihon University's “Cheers,” and Chuo's “Lafrance (A)” and “Lafrance (B)” (Lafrance was allowed to enter two teams because it had a large number of players). Games were played in seven innings under the rule of ending when the playing time reached one hour and declaring a team scoring more points then the winner.

　ラフランスが優勝した「ATHLEAD FIELD BASEBALL FESTA 2025 1年生大会」は、スポーツ大会の企画・運営を行う会社「アスリード」が主催し、2025年12月6、7日に茨城県波崎町で開催された。リーグ戦形式で行われ、青山学院大学「Angels」、東洋大学「RODGERS」、日本大学「ちあーず」、中央大学「ラフランス（A）」「ラフランス（B）」の計5チームが参加した。ラフランスは部員数が多いため2チームでの出場となった。試合は7イニング制を基本とし、試合時間が1時間に達した時点で終了、得点の多いチームが勝利となる形式で行われた。

　　Lafrance (A) team, in which Taniguchi and Masaki played, won all their four games to claim the championship. Taniguchi excelled both in pitching and hitting. He was the starting pitcher in two of the four games. Although it was a rookie tournament, second-grader Masaki was allowed to participate from the overage player frame and supported the team. Taniguchi won the title of MVP.

　谷口、正木両選手が出場したラフランス（A）チームは4試合すべてに勝利し、優勝を果たした。谷口選手は投打の両面で活躍し、4試合中2試合で先発投手を務めた。1年生大会であったが、2年生の正木選手はオーバーエイジ枠として出場し、チームを支えた。谷口選手は大会最優秀選手（MVP）にも輝いた。

　　Looking back at the championship, Taniguchi said, “Initially, I just thought it would be good if we could enjoy ourselves rather than focusing on the outcome. But perhaps thanks to our hard practice before the tournament, we managed to win unexpectedly. Before each game, my teammates told me, ‘The championship depends on your pitching,’ which put me under a lot of pressure, but I'm glad we could win. We could really enjoy ourselves and play good games."

　優勝について谷口さんは「当初は結果にこだわるというより、楽しければ良いかなと思っていましたが、大会前の練習の成果もあってか、案外勝てました。試合前には『谷口のピッチングに優勝がかかっているぞ』と言われプレッシャーでしたが、勝ててよかった。最後は楽しく、いい野球ができました」と振り返った。

　　Particularly impressive, according to him, was the title-deciding game against Nihon University's “Cheers.” Late in the game, Lafrance (A) allowed them a 3-2 lead. Taniguchi recalled, “I was frustrated because I knew I was responsible for losing the three runs. As a batter, I decided I would hit to make up for it myself.”

　特に印象的だったのは、日本大学「ちあーず」との優勝をかけた試合だった。試合終盤、ラフランス（A）は3対2とリードを許す展開となった。谷口さんは「3点を自分のせいで失ってしまい悔しかった。バッターとして自分で打って取り返そうと思いました」と振り返る。

　　That determination fortunately paid off. His hit in his final at-bat sparked a rally, leading to a dramatic 13-3 comeback mercy-rule victory. Masaki, who had reached base on Taniguchi's hit, crossed home plate. “Taniguchi's amazing timely hit brought me home,” he said with a smile.　

　その思いは打席で形となった。試合最後の打席で放った一打をきっかけに打線がつながり、13対3の逆転コールド勝ちを収めた。谷口選手のヒットで出塁していた正木選手はホームインし、「谷口の素晴らしいタイムリーのおかげでホームを踏めた」と笑顔を見せた。

　　On his MVP award, Taniguchi candidly said, “After we clinched the championship and were celebrating it with my teammates, I was surprised to hear my name called as MVP.” His consistent performance in both pitching and hitting throughout the tournament earned him the title.

　MVP受賞について谷口さんは「優勝が決まりチームメイトと喜んでいたら、MVPとして自分の名前が呼ばれてびっくりしました」と率直に語った。大会を通じて投打ともに安定した活躍を見せたことが高く評価された。

Love for baseball and teammates
Asked about Lafrance's good points, Taniguchi and Masaki unanimously replied, “All of us share a strong love for both baseball and teammates.” While they daily practice seriously, they also value events like year-end and New Year parties. Lafrance has a perfect blend of a relaxed atmosphere unique to a student club and an intense passion it shows when it plays a game.

　ラフランスの魅力について尋ねると、2人は口をそろえて「野球や仲間への愛が強いこと」と答えた。日々の練習には真剣に取り組む一方で、忘年会や新年会などのイベントも大切にしているという。学生サークルならではの程よい緩さと、試合で見せる熱い姿勢。そのバランスがラフランスの魅力となっている。

　　Masaki added, “We welcome both experienced players and beginners. We're recruiting everyone from first-graders who are confident in their skills to those who are willing to help us as a manager. Let’s enjoy baseball together.” His words, spoken with a smile, convey the warmth and unity of the team.
