I'm going to read you a very special bedtime story all about a tiny whale who, on this particular day, needs to be the strongest and bravest he has ever been.

A mulberry sky full of flashes and rumbles, an ocean alive as it rises and tumbles.
きらめきと轟音に満ちた桑の実のような空、波が打ち寄せては揺れる、生き生きとした海。
And there, beneath the waves of a stormy Atlantic, lives a blue whale, and his name is Gigantic.
そして、嵐の大西洋の波の下には、シロナガスクジラが住んでいます。その名前は Gigantic です。
This guy is unusual, he's different, he's odd the smallest blue whale in the whole of the pod.
このクジラは普通ではなく、変わっていて、群れの中で一番小さいシロナガスクジラです。
His parents, they love him but hope all the same that one day their son will grow into his name.
両親は彼を愛しているが、それでもいつか息子が彼の名前にふさわしい成長を遂げてくれることを願っている。
"Hey, Titchy," taunts Titan. "If I were that small,
「おい、ティッチ」とタイタンはからかう。
I'm not sure I'd feel like a whale at all. In fact, little brother, I think you'd be wise to make friends with Myrtle. She's much more your size."

He swims to the turtle and smiles a shy smile.

"Hello there," she says. "Let's hang out for a while."

So they leap and they dive and they dance and they play, big fun for small friends in the mouth of the bay.

Meanwhile, plumes of seaweed conceal their bulk it's Titan with buddies Colossus and Hulk.

"Just look at those pipsqueaks," he says with a frown.

"Oh wow," says Colossus, a smile on her chops.

"Gigantic's so good at those flippity flops."

"Your brother," says Hulk, "is a talent for sure. I've not seen a whale do a tail spin before."
「お前の弟は」とハルクが言う。「確かに才能があるな。クジラが尻尾を回すのを見たことがない」
"Nonsense," says Titan.
「馬鹿げている」とタイタンが言う。
"There can't be much to it. How hard can it be if Gigantic can do it?
I'll show those two shrimps how a real whale can swim,
and I'll do it bigger and better than him."
「そんなに難しいことじゃないだろう。 ジャイガンティックができるなら、そんなに難しいことじゃないだろう？ あの2匹のエビに本物のクジラの泳ぎ方を教えてやる。しかも、奴より大きくて上手にやってやる」
"Wait," says Colossus. "Stay right where you are. The sea in the bay is too shallow by far."
「待って」とコロッサスが言う。「そのままでいろ。湾の海ははるかに浅すぎる」
Ignoring his friends, the determined young whale sets off through the blue with a swish of his tail.
仲間を無視して、決意を固めた若いクジラは尾を振って青い海へと出発する。
Gigantic looks up as a shadow is cast.
影が映るとジャイガンティックは見上げる。
"Be careful," he warns as his brother glides past.
「気をつけろ」と弟が通り過ぎると警告する。
"Watch this," Titan says with a whopping wide grin.
「見てろ」とタイタンは満面の笑みを浮かべながら言う。
He rotates his tail but is grounded mid-spin.
彼は尻尾を回したが、回転の途中で地面につかまってしまった。
So now we arrive at the turn of the tide.
そして今、潮の流れが変わった。
Poor Titan is beached, stuck on his side.
かわいそうなタイタンは浜辺に打ち上げられ、横向きに動けなくなっている。
"Quickly," shouts Myrtle.
「急いで」マートルが叫ぶ。
"This looks like bad news. Small sea life, assemble! There's no time to lose."
「これはまずい知らせだ。 海の小さな生き物たち、集合！ 時間を無駄にしてはいけない。」
They come from the coral, the rocks, and the caves the teenies and tinies that live 'neath the waves.
彼らはサンゴや岩、洞窟からやって来て、波の下に住む小さな生き物たちだ。
They dig and they scrape and they scoop and they suck,all working as one to get Titan unstuck.
彼らは掘ったり、こすったり、すくったり、吸ったりして、 みんなで協力してタイタンを引っかかった状態から脱出させようとしている。
"Pull," bellows Myrtle. "We haven't got long."
「引っ張って」マートルが怒鳴る。「もう長くはない。」
"I'll help," says Gigantic. "I'm small but I'm strong."
「僕が手伝うよ」とジャイガンティックが言う。「僕は小さいけど強いんだ。」 彼はタイタンのほうを向く。
He turns towards Titan, whose eyes swim with fear.
タイタンの目は恐怖で泳いでいる。
"Don't worry, big brother, I won't leave you here."
「心配しないで、兄さん、僕は君をここに置き去りにはしないよ。」
They heave and they drag and they haul and they strain, each one a small link in a much bigger chain.
彼らは引っ張り、引きずり、引っ張り、緊張し、それぞれがもっと大きな鎖の小さな輪となる。
The little blue whale pulls with all of his might, and look—Titan's free! What a wonderful sight.

Relieved, the huge whale takes his leave of the bay.

Young Titan has learned a hard lesson today.

And here comes Gigantic, a smile on his face.

"Now show us that tail. I bet that it's ace."

"Gigantic," says Titan, "I've been such a fool enormously dim, tiny-minded, and cruel.

I was blind to your talents, but now I can see how hugely important the small things can be.

From now on, I promise to stop being mean. I'll be the best brother the world's ever seen."

Forget-me-not sky and a sun warm and shiny, an ocean alive filled with friends large and tiny.

What matters the most is the size of your heart.

He was so brave in rescuing his big brother Titan and saving the day.
彼は兄のタイタンを助け、窮地を救った、とても勇敢な子でした。
Even though Gigantic was very small, he had the biggest of hearts,
and that, my friends, is what truly matters.
ジャイアンティックはとても小さかったけれど、彼はとても大きな心を持っていました。そして、それが本当に大切なことなのです
You don't have to be big and strong to be brave and kind.
勇敢で親切になるために、大きくて強い必要はありません。
