国立科学博物館のはく製 “ニホンオオカミ”か 都内の中学生気づく
論文を発表したのは都内の中学1年生、小森日菜子さんと国立科学博物館などの研究チームです。
小森さんは、小学4年生だった4年前（2020年）、茨城県つくば市にある国立科学博物館の収蔵庫の特別公開イベントを訪れたときに保管されている動物のはく製標本1点が、図鑑などで見たニホンオオカミと似ていることに気がつきました。
このはく製は「ヤマイヌの一種」として博物館に保管されてきたものでしたが、小森さんが専門家とともに詳しく調べた結果、▼体の大きさや▼はく製のラベルに基づく過去の記録などから100年以上前に現在の上野動物園で飼育されていたニホンオオカミの可能性が高いことがわかり、2年がかりで論文にまとめて今月（2月）発表しました。

The paper was published by Komori Hinako, a first-year junior high school student in Tokyo, and a research team from the National Museum of Nature and Science and other institutions.
Four years ago (2020), when Komori was a fourth-grader at elementary school, she visited a special open house event at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, where she noticed that one of the stuffed animal specimens stored there resembled a Japanese wolf she had seen in an illustrated book.
The stuffed animal had been kept at the museum as a "wild dog flex."
