The reason for being the successor of the ultra-Orthodox school of martial arts.

Roger Voltz who became the last modern samurai , is a traditional martial artist, and a Noh mask sculptor.

• As a martial artist and practitioner of ancient martial arts

Roger Voltz came to Japan from his native France and soon became a live-in student at the Yoseikan dojo under the late Mochizuki Minoru sensei.

Master Minoru Mochizuki was a direct disciple of both Morihei Ueshiba, known as the founder of Aikido, and also of Jigoro Kano, the founder of Kodokan Judo .

As Roger Voltz is a martial artist and a practitioner of ancient art martial arts his practice makes him a disciple of the orthodox school that follows in the footsteps of the founders of the jujitsu world.

• As a Noh mask sculptor

While training in martial arts, he learned of Miyamoto Musashi and began reading The Book of Five Rings, which prompted him to embark on a career as an artist and become a Noh mask sculptor.

His master, the late Noh mask sculptor Mugen ( Atsumi ) Kichinosuke was a student of the Living National Treasure Hori Yasuemon and learned also directly from another Living National Treasure, Nagasawa Ujiharu.

As a Noh mask sculptor, Roger Voltz is a direct disciple of a Living National Treasure and was passed on his techniques by Mugen sensei.

Already 50 years have passed since he came to Japan, and he continues to study traditional Japanese culture through martial arts and Noh mask carving.

Although he has a Western aesthetic sense based on his homeland of faraway France and originally looks French, he can be said to be at heart a Japanese who understands Japanese traditional culture and history better than most Japanese people.

Roger Voltz has continued to train as a martial artist for around 50 years and later founded his own school of martial arts, Shindo-ryu Bojutsu based on the technics of the art of the stick called roku-shaku-bo in Japan while also being active as a Noh mask sculptor for the last 30 years, a career that continues to this day.

When you look at Roger Voltz 's work, you can see that he is a first-class artist who does not tolerate any compromise.
