桜の咲く季節に
桜の咲く季節となりました。
今年も桜を見ることができることに感謝。
新年度ということもあり、新入生、新社会人のちょっぴり緊張気味の、
でも初々しく、そして希望を胸に歩く人を多く見かけます。
とは言え、希望を持って進んでも、自分の思い描いた姿と現状のギャップに悩んだり、ままならないことも度々。
春は「うららかな」な一方で、「花冷え」のように急に天候が荒れたりと、不安定な季節でもある。
そういえば、俳句の季語に「春愁」という言葉があったなあと思い起しつつ。
そんな桜の季節に、改めて"The X Factor UK 2012" での Christopher Maloney氏のチャレンジ動画を見ています。
Tonyこと「とにかく明るい安村」氏の"Britain's Got Talent"の奮闘動画も良いですが、Christopher Maloney氏の真っ直ぐな姿勢に心動かされます。
数千人の前での公開オーディション。
ステージ登場は、緊張で手足がガクガクで、とても見ていられない。
当時、34歳。カスタマーサービのアドバイザー。
周囲からは、「絶対うまく行かないから止めておけ」と言われている中でのチャレンジ。
しかし、徐々に自信に満ちた表情で歌い上げていく。
彼の心と体の中に何が起きていたのだろうか。
そして、彼の歌う曲もまたすごくいい。

極度の緊張の中で、Christopher Maloney氏が成功を収めた要因の一つに、"The Roseという「歌」の力があったのではないか。
この味わい深い、言葉、メロディーが自分自身を鼓舞して行ったような気がします。
そして、"The Rose"の最後の歌詞は「春」で締めくくられている。

In the spring becomes the rose
太陽の愛と共に種がじっと眠っている
春に美しい薔薇を咲かすために
この季節にもう一度聞いてみようと思っています。
