地面の微妙な高低差

Have you ever paid attention to the subtle difference in ground elevation in your city?

お住まいの街で微妙な高低差に注意してみたことはありますか？

You can spot such differences in ground elevation in Shizuoka.

静岡でこのような地面の高低差に注目してみるのはどうでしょうか。

For example, the difference in ground elevation in the Aoi Ward Office is symbolic.

例えば、葵区役所の高低差は象徴的です。

There is a staircase with nine steps in the southern entrance of this building that faces Gokufu-cho District.

呉服町に面している建物の南側入り口には9段の階段があります。

It means Gofuku-cho district is lower than Otemachi district (where the Aoi Ward Office is).

つまり、（葵区役所がある）追手町より呉服町のほうが低いと言うことです。

In the Edo period, the area for the samurai class was on the elevated part of Sumpu.

江戸時代、サムライたちの地区は駿府の高い部分にありました。

Commoners lived in the low-lying areas of the city.

町民たちは街の低い標高の地区に住んでいました。

The Sumpu Magistrate Office (Bugyosho) and the mansion for the Tokugawa shogunate inspector used to be located in the location of the present-day Shizuoka City Assembly Hall and Aoi Ward Office.

駿府奉行所と（幕府から派遣される）目付の屋敷は現在の静岡市議会場と葵区役所の場所にありました。

The Sumpu Castle Park is located a little north of the Aoi Ward Office.

駿府城公園は葵区役所の北にあります。

This is the most elevated part of downtown Shizuoka City.

静岡市の中心部の中で最も高い部分にあります。

Rulers in Sumpu deliberately put the administrative offices in elevated areas to avoid flooding whenever the Abe River swelled.

駿府の支配者たちは意図的に行政機関を標高の高い地区において、安倍川が氾濫しても避けることが出来るようにしていました。
