火星リフト・ログ 11：星間鉄道（Interstellar Railroad）

発車のチャイムが鳴ったとき、レオはキャリーケースの中でそっと身を起こし、
その横で丸くなっていたエイミーは、静かに目を開けた。
姉のエイミーは、レオの小さな体に軽く尻尾を巻きつけ、優しく問いかけた。
「起きたの？ 怖くないよ、レオ。」

火星生まれの猫の姉弟。
地表の音響ドームで育ち、今は「感覚記録動物」として星間鉄道に乗っている。
それは、火星軌道上から木星圏を目指し、いくつかの人工都市を巡る旅。

車窓から、火星の赤い大地がゆっくりと遠ざかっていく。
レオはじっと見つめていた。
彼には聞こえていた。誰にも聞こえない、小さな“音”たちが遠くに散っていく音。

「ねえ、エイミー……ぼくたち、どこへ行くの？」
弟の問いに、エイミーは少し考えてから、にっこりと笑った。

「“帰る場所”を探しに行くのよ。私たちだけの。」

列車の車内は、重力も時間も薄れていくような空間。
人間たちは深い眠りに入り、誰もがそれぞれの夢を見ている。
だが、エイミーとレオはその夢のすき間を、まるで音のようにすり抜けて歩く。

途中、列車は星間霧帯へと突入した。

まばゆい霧の中、外の世界も自分の体も、少しずつ曖昧になっていく。

レオが小さく震えると、エイミーはすぐに気づいた。
そして、やわらかい声で言った。

「大丈夫。霧は夢の扉よ。通り抜けた先に、ちゃんと明かりがあるから。」

レオはうなずき、姉の隣にぴったりと身を寄せた。

列車は静かに走り続ける。
機械の声が告げる――「次の停車駅：記憶の海」。

ふたりの猫は眠りの中、星の音とともに、まだ見ぬ「故郷」へと旅を続けていた。

As the boarding chime echoed through the orbital platform, Leo stirred in his carrier.
Beside him, his sister Amy slowly opened her eyes, curling her tail gently around his small back.

“You’re awake,” she murmured.
“It’s alright. Nothing to be afraid of.”

They were born on Mars — a pair of feline siblings.
Amy, the elder, calm and attentive.
Leo, the younger, sensitive and quiet, with ears always tuned to sounds no one else seemed to hear.

The train they boarded wasn’t just any train — it was the Interstellar Railroad,
departing from Mars orbit, bound for the moons of Jupiter and beyond.

As the train pulled away, Leo watched silently as the rusty curve of Mars faded from view.
He tilted his head. He could hear it —

the faint, fading echoes of the only planet he had ever known.

“Amy… where are we going?”
he whispered.

Amy smiled softly, leaning down to touch her forehead to his.

“To find a place that feels like home.
One that belongs just to us.”

The cabin was dimly lit, filled with the low, pulsing rhythm of the train’s quantum engine.
Passengers around them were already in sleep mode — dreaming their own distant dreams.

But Amy and Leo wandered quietly between them,
moving through the thin seams between memory and silence,
as if they alone could walk the soundlines of forgotten thoughts.

Then, the train passed into the Interstellar Mist Belt —
a stretch of space where light itself seemed to dissolve.
Everything turned silver and still.

Leo trembled slightly.
Amy felt it at once.
She bent her head close and whispered,

“Don’t worry.
The mist is just a doorway.
There’s always light on the other side.”

Leo pressed closer to her warmth.

The train rolled on.
A calm voice came over the speakers:

“Next stop: Ocean of Memory.”

Amy and Leo curled up once more.
No meows, no sounds.
Only heartbeats and stars —
guiding them toward a home that might not exist…
but still waited.

Somewhere.
