Post-Injury Reflection and Rebuilding Daily LifeDateー2026/06/20 (Saturday) Reiwa8
I find myself in a situation where I can no longer follow the plan I had carefully built for my life, especially around swimming, studio classes, and joining a fitness club I was preparing to enroll in.
After a fall and a left upper arm/shoulder fracture, everything I had decided for July has suddenly stopped. I had just made up my mind to join a gym, start swimming regularly again, and enjoy studio programs like Zumba and Tai Chi. I had visited, tested classes, and was finally ready to commit.
Now, surgery is scheduled, and I understand I will need time to recover. For about a month after surgery, I will likely need a sling and will depend on others for basic things like meals. Even after that, rehabilitation will gradually begin, and returning to swimming or studio exercise will take months.
Swimming has always been important to me. I feel comfortable in the water, and it helps me forget worries. I had not been able to swim for a few months already due to travel and life changes, and now I face a longer break. That is difficult emotionally.
Still, I am beginning to understand my situation more clearly. Reading about the injury and recovery process has helped me accept what is happening. I also realize I may need to focus on what I can do for now, such as lower-body movement or gentle training when allowed.
There is also a mental struggle: I feel like I want to “reset” my mind and move forward, but I also feel tired and unmotivated. I wonder whether I need to force myself to change my mood or simply allow time to pass.
For now, I am trying to take things step by step. Writing this down helps me organize my thoughts and make sense of this unexpected pause in my routine life.
