Discharge Diary (1) – Returning Home, Beginning Life Again — June 27, 2026 (Sat.)Reiwa8

Today, I was discharged from the hospital and returned to Eden no Sono.

Thankfully, a staff member came to pick me up by car.

It felt so comforting to be back in my own room.

During my stay in the hospital, I was surrounded by kind and caring people. I am truly grateful for all of their support.

The first challenge after coming home was washing my hair.

Since breaking my arm, I had come up with a simple idea. I made a small hole in a plastic bag and put my head and arm through it so that my clothes and sling would stay dry while I washed my hair in the kitchen. The method worked well again today.

After that, I took a shower and washed only the lower half of my body. I really wanted to wash my whole body, but I still have to keep water away from my left shoulder. My sling became a little wet, so I changed it for a clean one.

My husband ordered an arm sling that I can put on and take off by myself. I showed it to my doctor first, and he said it would be fine. I'm looking forward to using it when it arrives.

I also decided to do some laundry. At first, I thought I would wait until my husband arrived, but after thinking about the noise in the evening, I decided to finish it before night.

While hanging up the laundry, I sometimes found myself using my left hand without thinking. Every time, I reminded myself not to overdo it. Still, it was very different from the days right after I broke my arm.

Back then, simply taking off the sling and letting my arm hang for a moment caused terrible pain. Taking a shower, getting dressed, and even putting the sling back on with the help of a caregiver were all exhausting.

Today, I still have pain from the surgery, but it is clearly different.

I realized that this is no longer the pain of a broken bone.

That was the happiest thing I noticed today.

And best of all, I enjoyed my first dinner back at Eden no Sono.

The hospital meals were carefully prepared with good nutrition in mind, but the meals at Eden no Sono are truly special. They always include seasonal dishes and special menu items, making every meal something to look forward to.

I feel deeply grateful that I can continue living here and enjoy these meals every day.

My husband is flying to Matsuyama after finishing work in Tokyo.

I sent him a message saying, "Don't wait for me. I'll be asleep. I'll leave the door unlocked, so just come in and make yourself comfortable."

I worked hard enough today.

Today was my first day after leaving the hospital.

From here, I will slowly rebuild my daily life, one step at a time.
