New Zealand Trip, No.16 (Day 3 of Stay – Part 3)Coffee and Ice Cream in New Zealand — A Small Luxury Enjoyed in Nature

We had coffee at the café at the golf course.
My husband ordered a latte, and I chose a flat white.

In New Zealand, coffee is mainly espresso-based,
and it is said to be characterized by finely steamed milk.

A flat white has less foam than a latte,
allowing you to fully enjoy the smoothness of the milk
and the rich depth of the coffee.
The cup was small, but the flavor was very intense.

The price was five dollars.
Perhaps it included tax, or maybe they gave us a small extra service
because it was obvious we were not locals.
While traveling, such small moments remain in the heart.

In the afternoon, we went strawberry picking.
Recently in Japan, a convenience-store product called
“Whole Strawberries” has risen in price to around 500 yen.

So here, I ate as many as I could.
We bought the rest by weight.

Nearby, an ice-cream truck had arrived.
It seems to be a common sight in New Zealand.

A small size was also five dollars.
We decided to share one, so we asked for a mixed flavor —
blueberry and vanilla.

The benches were full of families with children,
so I sat quietly under a tree and spent some time in a daydream.

A brown bird was walking nearby.
Was it a chicken?

People and animals both feel somehow different here.
And yet, under the same wide sky,
a peaceful afternoon slowly passed.

Perhaps moments like this are the greatest luxury when traveling.
