At Last, I Was Able to Say "Thank You" - A Milestone Three Weeks After My Fracture - July 2, 2026 (Thu), Reiwa 8

Today was my first follow-up appointment after my fracture.

The doctor told me that my recovery is progressing well, and I felt a great sense of relief.

On my way home, I was finally able to do something that had been on my mind for a long time.

I wrote two postcards: one to the nurse at Bethel Hospital who first came to help me after I fell and fractured my left hand on June 18, and another to the hospital director to express my gratitude.

They were just simple postcards.

They were not expensive gifts, and my handwriting is far from beautiful.

But they carried the words I had wanted to say from the bottom of my heart:

"Thank you."

The pain I felt that day was beyond anything I had ever experienced.

I could not move and had no idea what to do.

The nurse came to me and gently asked, "What happened?"

From that moment on, I was supported by many people: the staff at Bethel Hospital, the caregivers at Eden no Sono, and the medical team at the Japanese Red Cross Hospital.

The week before my surgery felt very long, and I spent those days enduring constant pain.

Even so, today, after my follow-up appointment, I was finally able to deliver my postcards.

After leaving them at the reception desk and walking out of the hospital, I felt an unexpected sense of peace.

The agapanthus flowers were beautiful.

Perhaps this is what people mean when they say, "A weight has been lifted from my shoulders."

I do not know how the recipients will feel when they read my postcards.

But I wanted to express my gratitude.

I was able to do that.

For me, that was enough.

Life is truly unpredictable.

On the morning of June 18, I left Eden no Sono planning to visit the Saka no Ue no Kumo Museum.

I never imagined that the day would end with a fractured bone.

That is why I am especially grateful to have reached this day.

And once again, from the bottom of my heart, I want to say:

Thank you to everyone who helped me.
