The Person I Was Is Still Within MeAugust 1, 2026 (Saturday) Reiwa8
Today, I planned to study for the Registered Salesperson Examination.
After my rehabilitation session, I sat in a massage chair and listened to classical music, as I often do.
Then, without warning, memories of the music I loved in my younger days came back to me.
I thought of the songs by Ryudo Uzaki and the powerful songs later performed by Momoe Yamaguchi.
At Eden, I rarely hear that kind of music anymore.
Yet, while listening to classical music, I suddenly felt as if my younger self had quietly appeared beside me.
Back then, I was studying hard for university entrance exams, determined to build a life on my own as a woman.
I could already see the contradictions and the hypocrisy in society, but I also knew I had to live within that same society.
I was never openly rebellious.
Still, deep inside, there was always a voice saying, "Something isn't right."
Perhaps that is why those songs spoke so deeply to me.
They expressed feelings that I could not easily put into words myself.
These days, I do not listen to that music very often.
But whenever I watch those old performances on YouTube, I feel surprisingly refreshed.
Part of me still wants someone to cut through pretenses and speak the truth without hesitation.
Of course, I have grown older.
Life has taught me that people have their own circumstances, and that not everything is simply black or white.
Even so, one thing has never changed.
I still want to see the world with my own eyes and think with my own mind instead of accepting everything at face value.
The person I was in those days has never disappeared.
She has simply grown quieter and wiser, but she is still living within me.
Today, classical music reminded me of that.
