Wagashi Day — Sweetness Born from Prayer
June 16 is Wagashi Day in Japan.
Its origin is said to come from an old Heian-period custom called Kasho.
Long ago, sweets and rice cakes were offered in prayer for protection from illness and for good health.
Behind the gentle sweetness of wagashi, there is a quiet wish for someone’s well-being.
