英語学習: フットボール(サッカー)で使われる表現 -- Football English --

私はEnglish Premier League Footballが大好きなのです。この投稿ではPremier Leagueの実況や解説などで使われるFootball Englishをいつくかご紹介します。私個人は昔にOxfordからリリースされていたEnglish for Footballという教材を購入し参考にしていました．

以下は最初にEnglish Expression、次に日本語の意味や使われる場面、最後にサンプルとなっています。

1. Back of the net
意味: ゴールが決まったことを、興奮をこめて表現する言い方
サンプル: It’s in the back of the net, and the home crowd erupts!

2. Concede
意味: ゴールを許すという表現
サンプル: Japan conceded only one goal in the World Cup Group Stage.

3. A brace
意味: 一人の選手が1試合で2得点すること
サンプル: That’s a brace for him, and he’s been outstanding tonight.

4. Clinical finish
意味: 冷静で正確なシュートによるゴールを表す表現
サンプル: What a clinical finish under pressure.

5. Screamer
意味: 豪快で印象的なシュート、特にロングシュートのゴール
サンプル: Oh, that is an absolute screamer! Liverpool, yet again!

6. Top bins
意味: ゴールの上隅に完璧に決まることを表すカジュアルな表現
サンプル: Right into the top bins — unstoppable.

7. Row Z
意味: シュートが大きく外れてボールがスタンドの高い位置まで飛ぶこと
サンプル: He’s sent that one straight into Row Z.

8. A fox in the box
意味: ゴール前で得点感覚に優れたストライカー
サンプル: He’s a real fox in the box — always in the right place.

9. Nutmeg
意味: 股抜きパス
サンプル: The promising player nutmegged the defender.

10. Park the bus
意味: 守備を固め、失点しないことを最優先する戦い方
サンプル: They’re clearly trying to park the bus now.

11. In acres of space
意味: 周囲にほとんど相手がおらず、自由に動ける状態
サンプル: He’s found himself in acres of space on the wing.

12. Late run into the box
意味: ミッドフィールダーが遅れてペナルティエリアに入ってくる動き
サンプル: A perfectly timed late run into the box.

13. Keep one's composure
意味: プレッシャーの中でも冷静さを保つこと
サンプル: He keeps his composure and slots it home.

14. Against the run of play
意味: 試合の流れ的には不利だったチームが得点した時に使われる表現
サンプル: Totally against the run of play, but they won’t care one bit.

15. A game of two halves
意味: 前半と後半で試合内容や流れが大きく変わった試合を表す表現
サンプル: It really has been a game of two halves so far.

16. The goalkeeper made a howler
意味: ゴールキーパーの基本的なミス
サンプル: What a mistake! The goalkeeper made a howler.

17. Put eleven men behind the ball
意味: ゴールするよりも11人全員で守るを固める
サンプル: Many teams put eleven men behind the ball and are happy with a 0-0 draw when they play against Barcelona.

18. Hit the wood work
意味: シュートがクロスバーやポールに当たること
サンプル: Unfortunately, his shoot hit the wood work and he missed a chance for the equalizer.

19. Switch play
意味: サイドから逆サイドへボールをパスすること
サンプル: She switched play from left to right wing.

20. Pull off the great save
意味: ゴールキーパーの素晴らしいセーブ
サンプル: This young goalkeeper pulled off the great save. It's unbelievable

まだまだありますが、今回はここまでにします。

Premier Leagueの試合は日本では動画配信サービスが放映していますが、二か国語放送ではないので現地の生の実況等が楽しめない点が非常に残念です。是非二か国語対応して欲しい!!
