Meet the Makers: Laura Hricko: Natural Dyeing Practice & Perspective
Step into the world of natural dyeing with Laura Hricko. In this vibrant webinar, Laura offers a behind-the-scenes look at her practice as a city-based natural dyer and teaching artist, sharing her process, experiences, and how this work has reshaped her perspective on consumerism and production.
Join us to explore the journey from plant to pigment and discover new ways of thinking about materials, making, and the systems behind what we wear.
Date: May 20th
Time: 12-1 PM ET
Location: Virtual (Zoom link provided upon registration)
About the Presenter:
Laura Hricko is a textile artist, educator, and lifelong Philadelphian. Her practice spans multiple fiber art techniques, including quilting, mending, embroidery, and textile surface design. She is guided by a deep curiosity about the historical and social significance of both materials and the processes used to transform them, and strives to be a steward of traditional textile practices.
In recent years, Laura has immersed herself in natural dyeing, using these ancient craft techniques to coax color from homegrown flowers, foraged plants, and food-waste materials. As a teaching artist, Laura creates hands-on natural dye experiences that invite students to reconsider their relationship with textiles, the natural world, and consumption, while discovering the art that can be created in collaboration with nature.

Whether you’re a fiber producer curious about processing, a designer interested in sourcing regionally, or simply fascinated by how fiber becomes yarn, this conversation will offer valuable insight into a critical part of our textile ecosystem.
