AND MORE TOMODACHI SCREENCAPS i take entirely too many honestly, every time I play it I get more! Some of the items I made are in here, which i GUESS you could use as a guide if you follow where I placed the pixels? idk lol. I'm just thinking about this thread about object builds where I followed the pixel guidelines to make some of the buildings myself, but it's probably easier with the fine details of a building. Gatsby sitting on my aarrrmsss

Anyway not as many this time, just around 430 or so. JUST AN AVERAGE AMOUNT OF IMAGES TO PUT IN A POST man dreamwidth has been so laggy for me lately. i wonder if it's the post size or just dw itself?

Do skeletons appear? Perhaps )

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW that was just two days of screencaps lol, gotta sort through some more.

It's time for another dream roundup!

Dreams from March and April. )

Finally: in one dream, I was trying to remember whether the word for someone who doesn't drink was 'geepltimer' or 'geppltimer', and then I woke up and remembered it was 'teetotaller'.

Trying to veer away from spoilery stuff but with enough detail that I won't forget:

So the Camera Obscura in Fatal Frame 2 remake is no longer a combo of "raise camera, maybe change film, take picture". You can now use several different filters, and if you have set up the camera, change your focus and zoom.

There is a new scripted fight towards the end of Chapter 4 where you have to take out a ghost that's threatening Mayu while you can't get to her (easily). You have to have the zoom function to take out the ghost, and also remember how to use the zoom function. On the Steam Deck and similar Xbox-like controllers, that is "hold Y, Dpad up/down".

(I'm pretty sure said scripted fight was in a different place in the same room in prior versions of the game, where you still need to fight off a ghost that goes after her, but I don't have to remember which key does what!)

Robert Grove of The Goes Wrong Show sank his teeth into my throat at the turn of the year and has spent the four months since then shaking me violently, but I think he's starting to relax his grip a little!

I'm still deeply fond of the Cornley Drama Society, of course! But I'm no longer constantly thinking about the Goes Wrong universe, or feeling the non-stop drive to write fanfiction. I can think of other works of fiction again at last, without resenting them for having the temerity not to feature Robert Grove!

In short, I find myself stumbling back into the real world at last, squinting in the sunlight, with 60,000 words of fanfiction scattered around me. This has been one of the wildest, most intense fandom experiences I've ever had. I lost twenty AO3 subscribers. I don't regret a thing.

Does this mean I'm going to start posting entries about other things again? No promises, but it just might happen.

Actually, here's an entry that's at least partly about other things right now! Rather an overdue entry, to be honest.

Towards the end of last year, I wanted to make an entry reflecting on the three canons of 2025 (specifically, canons I'd first experienced in 2025) that had had the biggest impact on me. I was struggling a little to come up with three, though! I knew Clair Obscur would be one, and the Silent Hill 2 remake would be another, but I just couldn't think of a third.

And then The Goes Wrong Show slammed into me, absolutely obliterating me, and I'm now making this post four months late because I've only just regained the ability to talk about anything else.

Of all the canons I first experienced in 2025, here are the three that had the largest impact on me:

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 leapt with impressive speed from 'huh, I've never heard of this' to being one of my favourite games of all time! Loved the gameplay, loved the concept, loved the characters. The art direction is stunning, as is the music; I actually bought the OST, approximately twenty years after my last purchase of a videogame soundtrack. I replayed the game immediately after beating it; I just wasn't ready to put it down. It's not a perfect game - I have severe frustrations with the ending - but it comes so, so close, and even the aspects I dislike are still interesting to think and talk about. I also really enjoy the way it is unapologetically Frencher than France.

I was nervous about playing the Silent Hill 2 remake! The original Silent Hill 2 was so formative for me; it was hard to imagine that a remake would get it right. But it got it so right. I'm absolutely awed by how well this remake captures and expands on the game, and how clearly it's built on deep foundations of love for the original. It was a pleasure to spend time with James Sunderland again. Well, it was horrible, obviously, but I still had a great time.

And, finally, The Goes Wrong Show, which I absolutely lost my mind about for four solid months, going from 'wow, this is some really impressive stagecraft and comic timing and Robert is hot' to 'I kind of want to dig into these characters' to 'wait, where did these theatre tickets come from' to 'somehow this is now my fourth-most-written fandom of all time?'

On a canon level, I enjoy The Goes Wrong Show because it's very funny and well-crafted! On a fandom level... honestly, I think it woke up a side of me that's been dormant since I was a teenager in Top Gear fandom. I heard 'a group of people, everything they do is a disaster, one of them is a big blustery attention-grabbing man who blithely causes problems for everyone', and the part of me that wrote 90,000 words of fanfiction about Jeremy Clarkson at the age of eighteen immediately shouldered her way to my computer and opened up a Word document.

Maybe I need to just sparkle harder

  • Job hunt progress: rejected for every job I applied for so far!
    • Have been asked for questions in advance, and oh my god I am never going back. How did I live without knowing what I'd be walking into with interviews. Why would anyone ever not give the questions in advance so they could decent, well-thought out answers.

    • Had an interview at the start of the month where I asked what the team culture was like (meaning: how are the vibes), and the interviewer's response was "Well, Sam's Chinese...?"

    • Had an interview last week and I think it went okay – the interview I had in March I was like "I am 100% not getting this job," the one at the start of the month I was like "I 100% do not want this job," and this one I'm like "If I get it that will be nice, if I don't I will survive." But I asked the interviewer if this was a quiet period for them, because the advert said "Busy, fast-paced environment!" and it looked fairly chill to me.

"Oh, we don't have a quiet period! We see 600 people every week!"

Me, working in a building where I can see that many people in an hour:

    • Interviewer asked about how I'd handle a colleague who wasn't pulling their weight, and I gave my proper answer, then followed up with "And what I don't do is complain to other coworkers or do passive-aggressive petty things because I'm frustrated!"

      Interviewer: There's a story there, isn't there?

    • (Update: I didn't get the job, but they said I had a lovely personality and it was a really enjoyable interview, so I'll take what I can get?)

    • Job hunting while I'm in the middle of a slow-motion menty-b is fun! I am a tired, mentally ill slug, except for the half an hour where I have to sparkle my very hardest for complete strangers!

  • Work drama is fun! Someone leaked an upcoming Stupid Decision to the press, and the person in charge is furious! (Obviously we are all collectively popcorn gifs.) One of the sites I work at is closed because raw sewage leaked into the building and shorted the fire alarm system. The project I was really excited to work on has been cancelled. Five people have left in the last month and more people are job hunting. It's all going great.

  • Joined a D&D game with some of Lex's work friends, and last session everyone got to do cool things like "put the fear of [tiefling character] into a god" and "kill a god"! And my contribution was solo-ing a ginormous undead kraken by casting Turn/Sear Undead and making it leave the combat.

  • (We were fighting a god of the ocean and some bright spark decided we should fight them at sea. Why? I still don't know.)

  • Low-key obsessing over Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint and I need my library to spit out the next few volumes immediately plskbai.

This is the best game that has ever existed, or will ever exist.

Hyperbole aside, damn did this thing hit me when I needed it, well done poncle. I've got SO MUCH going on right now my brain is fried by nightfall and I needed a pick-up-and-go game that I could vibe with that still had some strat meat and this thing fits the bill.

Vampire Crawlers is a roguelike deckbuilder from the team behind the much beloved Vampire Survivors bullet heaven, or horde survivor, or OG Survivors-like, or whatever you wanna call it.

Deckbuilding is my favorite card game mechanic and I've played quite a few of these. Crawlers takes the iconography, hyperkinetic bling, combo-based strategy, and achievement storm that is VS and slams it into a deckbuilder fighting mechanic with dungeon crawler map navigation. The game is fun and fast-paced, and if you're familiar with VS, the icons and combos will click early-on. Evolutions create powerful new cards, and chaining combos for damage boosts is ridiculously satisfying. Hitting treasure chests is rewarding, bashing candlesticks and pillars for coins is fun, and the ability to apply gems to cards to upgrade them in a variety of ways is frankly brilliant.

Normally in these types of games, you upgrade a card to a better card. Here the player is given an option of gems that can be "hammered" into gem slots available on each card, meaning you could have a handful of holy bible starter cards with no two being quite the same. I have not seen this in a deckbuilder before, and letting players build their own cards as well as their own decks is A+. Once you start getting the hang of different strategies, every card has the potential to be a good card, and every gem has potential relative to your current run. "All power ups are good power ups" was one of the big boons of VS, and it's lovely to see the sentiment carried over here.

Deckbuilder is a saturated genre and I gotta give the devs credit for making this game feel like a unique play experience. I have never played a game quite like this. I love VS, and I appreciate those sweet vibes are getting overlaid, but lads there's genuinely a lot to love here. From the old-school dungeon crawler graphics and retro dialogue sfx to the unlockable QOL enhancements and the knowledge this here is a poncle game so you're gonna have like 30 characters to play, it's a banger all around.

[personal profile] kingstoken's 2026 Book Bingo: Main Character Over the Age of 30

Spent by Alison Bechdel is a 2025 fictionalized memoir about a cartoonist (coincidentally named Alison Bechdel) who lives on a farm in Vermont with her partner, running a goat sanctuary while trying to write a graphic novel (or maybe it'll be a television show?) about capitalism (or maybe it's about her group of middle-aged queer friends).

The real Alison Bechdel is the creator of the long-running and groundbreaking comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For (1983-2008) and the award-winning graphic novel memoir Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic (2007), and that knowledge is something I think Spent depends on. It's not just that Sparrow, Stuart, Ginger, and Lois—and a grown-up Jiao Raizel—from Dykes to Watch Out For are fictional!Alison's neighbours in this, or that fictional!Alison is grappling with having an autobiographical success publicly leave her creative control through adaptation. The heart of this work exists in a very specific instant, where a queer leftist artist in middle age and the middle class is sitting at a career crossroads in the global car crash of late-stage capitalism, finding herself in an uncertain position between privileged and marginalized, mainstream and fringe, consumer and creator, progressive and out of touch.

My favourite parts of this book were the subplots with the characters from Dykes to Watch Out For—particularly storylines like Stuart and Sparrow expanding their relationship to a throuple, only for their poly kid to nonetheless jump to the conclusion they're both having affairs—and I found myself wishing I were reading it as a serial strip that could add up to more time with them. But that might be saying something about where and when I'd rather be.

This is a book that got me thinking about a lot of its topics, but more through its general timeliness and the role of Bechdel's work in the culture than through a connection with the characters or something in the writing hitting particularly hard. Still, while even the lighter stories didn't quite land in the right place for me to see myself revisiting them on rainy days, I do want to imagine a better future where I get to go back to this book someday and see it as a snapshot of a weird moment in time where we were all trying to figure some stuff out. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as anyone's first Bechdel, but I'm glad I read it.

A couple years ago, I did a daily tarot prompt (see this tag), which I'm thinking about doing again, but realising that consistency isn't going to be my best point, I'm not sure if it's a good idea. I guess I could draw a card when I remember to do it, and not commit to writing a drabble/ficlet every day? I really did have fun last time, but I also wasn't... fully burned out. so

Thoughts?

all 5 copies, babeeeeeeeeey!!!!!!!!

I may have burnt out trying to get multiple copies on JP, but that's what auto is for in ENG~ I'm so excited to have him!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if I once again failed to get T69 in an event...I was off by 1, just like Spring Night ;w;

yes I dug out my ranking screen from two years ago and yes I'm still salty about it...so close!!!!

....I swear I have other things going on in my life but sometimes a lot of that is just SCREAM ABOUT ENSTARS so that's what I'm here to do~ Especially with the anniversary about to hit OwO

SPEAKING OF THAT. I was mostly excited for the 11th anniversary stream in JP (happening on Sunday morning!!), but we got details about the 10th anniversary for the CN/KR/TW servers, and....we're getting extra stuff????????????? They're releasing cards with global exclusive art + MV outfits on top of all the sphere coordinate stuff for?????? idk why but I'm not complaining!!!! The art does not follow the ~standard~ style and it's kinda obvious they used multiple artists...but it's kinda charming in a way?

some of the units did get hit hard with the shota beam, lmao

At first, someone in one of the discord chats I'm in was saying that global is getting these outfits instead of the sphere coordinate ones, but they just couldn't fucking read. Liz found the details on the KR twitter and it's like....they use the sphere coordinate coins in the images for the anniversary announcements???? So we're definitely getting them~

..................shame ENG is so far behind that we're only on the 8th anniversary ;w; GOOD THING I PLAY IN CN SO I CAN EXPERIENCE THE NEW THINGS EARLY!!!!

4piece starts in ENG tomorrow, though, which is super exciting!!!!!! Still feels unreal that we've not just caught up to where I started in JP but surpassed it......not bad!! Just wild :0 I'm super excited to max Leo in Lumos's honor ♥ How else am I supposed to memorialize my cat if not to max her oshi's event card? It's what she would have wanted.

Though I'm a bit burnt out on tours, ngl. We had two in a row before Ringing evil phone and then in JP there was just the year end tour, which was draining...

OH. RIGHT.

in keeping with year end tour traditions in JP, I got two copies each of Subaru and Hiiro!!!!!!!!!! three years in a row now~

I wasn't originally gonna go for two copies, but then I solo'd a third copy of Niki, and I figured that with a 130% event bonus I could go for it XD Seriously, his BMU banner was so kind to me...I solo'd two copies of Niki + a second copy of Sena's most recent theme scout. So I guess Niki is trying to redeem himself after I failed to get either his M∀N∀ shuffle card or cross scout...we'll see if I forgive him XD

In non-enstars news, I was slightly late to renew my personal domain name and now it's not working right :T I'm hoping there's just a slight delay for the nameservers to refresh, but I swear to fuck I've had so many weird website issues this year...like okay, this was on me for being late with payment, but usually it comes right back online????? idk man. plz don't make me deal with getting things fixed in complicated ways again...

OH MY GOD HOW COULD I FORGET???? RAIKA IS THE NEXT BRIGHT ME UP SCOUT BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and he's so fucking precious I'm gonna throw up he's adorable

I have enough dia to scout for him a bunch of times tonight - since I ended up spending not very much on the event due to all my rate up bonus - and thanks to the way JP does scouting now, I have nearly enough coins saved up to spark him!!!! SO RAIKA IS COMING HOME ONE WAY OR ANOTHER!!!!!!!!!!!! MY PRECIOUS DUMB BIRD SON ♥

Oh!!!!! And speaking of Raika, behold:

100% Raika completion!!!!!

I didn't quite max his fans yet so I can keep dragging him around for work, since I also wanna get his office stats up as much as possible. I'm just so excited he's finally here in eng *w*

Less(?) exciting: I got two copies of Kaoru's cross scout and 0 of Yuzuru's ;w; Plus very shitty 4* scouting, so my event rate up is only 60% for VS. Princess. I'm debating scouting a couple more times for me, but I was trying to max at least one of the members of Eden from their TRIP album box D: Since KEEP OUT is hands down my favorite enstars song (and one of my favorite songs in general, ngl), I wanted their cards....even if I think the outfit is questionable.

I'm blaming Hiyori for the stupid butt ruffle

BUT WHATEVER. It means that my fave song is now finally in the ENG server, and that's good enough for me~

.......sorry that my posts are so image heavy; I take too many screenshots in enstars XD I just have a lot of joy about my dumb phone game, okay? But I really should make something for lunch, cuz I feel grumpy :T

I've received a few more Goes Wrong questions on Tumblr!

Anonymous: Cornley School au anon here. I worded it terribly, sorry. What I meant to ask was about the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society if they had met as teenagers and grown up in the 2010s but I absolutely garbled the word soup there.

Ah, thank you for clarifying, and I'm sorry for getting confused! It worked out in the end, because I enjoyed the idea of everyone getting trapped in the drama room.

I was an adult by the 2010s myself (I'm pretty much exactly the same age as Lewis/Sayer/Shields) (even the most virulent antis cannot complain about our four-month age gap when Robert Grove and I get married)*, so I don't know how intelligently I could talk about what it would be like for them to grow up in that decade; I imagine smartphones in particular made it a very different experience! (Unless Cornley has no reception, which I could definitely believe.)

* This is assuming that Robert is the same age as his actor, which is admittedly not a given! Chris is canonically two years older than Robert, whereas there are only three months between their actors. I considered using Lewis for this joke instead, but it's not Henry Lewis I'm weird about; it's Robert Grove. Which is unfortunate, because marrying Lewis would be a) more achievable and b) probably a less terrible idea.

If they met as teenagers, I could see them sort of gravitating around Robert. Things often feel uncertain and unstable when you're a teenager, and, at that age, I can imagine that Robert's projected air of absolute confidence might feel magnetic, particularly for the characters who have very little confidence themselves (e.g. Dennis and Vanessa). It's possible I just think that because I find Robert so compelling myself, though!

If Robert does end up the centre of their group, of course, it's only a matter of time before he ropes them into putting on theatre. They are doomed to end up in the drama society in every universe.

Anonymous, continued: Also, I am taking notes on If We Were Villains and I shall explore that... but yes, we do not want Robert killing Chris!

I hope you enjoy If We Were Villains, if you check it out! It's not a perfect book, but I really enjoyed how intense and weird the character dynamics were.

Maybe Robert could instead attempt to murder Chris and then get really huffy that Chris won't let it go. The man's still alive, isn't he? Why is he still complaining over one measly murder attempt? It's been weeks!

Anonymous: I don't know if this counts as a ficlet, but I'd love to see Man-Spider's mishaps with the Goes Wrong crew.

This is such a deep cut, and I’m so curious about who you are! In any case, Man-Spider is thrilled that someone remembers him.

The Theatrical Adventures of Man-Spider. )

Anonymous: Who would be the worst member of Cornley for Robert to be bodyswapped with? I am imagining shenanigans galore for every possibility!!!

I feel Sandra is simultaneously the worst and the best option!

Robert rather enjoys being in Sandra’s body. Does a lot of strutting and posing, comments that he can see why Sandra’s such a fan of it.

Sandra hates being Robert, right up until she realises that, if she’s in someone else’s body, she can have sex with herself. Robert takes up the suggestion with great enthusiasm. They make very little effort to hide what they’re up to from the rest of the society, who are deeply unhappy about this.

Except I've mostly lost track of dates so I'm basically tossing out the old advent and will start over with counting down to... idk, Xmas? all over again?

Dragon Goes House Hunting 9 (Kawo Tanuki & Choco Aya) - still cute, still gonna be glad this is ending next volume.

Polite Society - this was honestly really fun even if it wasn't entirely what I was expecting and I think it'll likely end up as a frequent comfort watch just because it's so delightful and over the top.

Know Your Ships (2011 Edition) - my father picked up a bundle and this was a duplicate of what he had, so I now have a fancy, if outdated, Great Lakes Ship reference. \o/

Nobunaga Concerto - JFF film, this is a movie wrapping up a television series, and the movie does the quickest three minute recap and then just runs with the bonkers isekai premise. It was okay, but probably lost a lot without having seen the series.

Bleach S1 - I actually had expected to watch this and then put it in the sale bin but I really enjoyed it. Maybe I'll pick up the next set and see how far I get before I fall off like I always do. Bleach has a really good beginning.

Every Day A Good Day - JFF film, this one was about tea ceremony and was a nice enough culture drama. About a young woman learning tea ceremony and how she kept with it over the years.

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers 6-11 (Katsuyuki Sumizawa, Tomofumi Ogasawara) - the whole middle and getting to the end! Lots of little differences and explanations for things that felt vague in the anime. Gorgeous art and fun extras, too.

Confetti - JFF film, this one was absolutely wonderful. About the youngest member of a traveling theater troupe and how he enrolls in a new school for the duration of the troupe's stay in a town, but he doesn't tell his classmates about his life.

The Prince and the Dressmaker (Jen Wang) - reread to finally write something for [community profile] small_fandoms since I've meant to for actual ages. This is still delightful and full of yearning.

Tsukipro The Animation 2 - still idols and fun songs, but things get a lot weirder in this one and it's a lot of fun.

Let's Go Karaoke - JFF film, live-action adaptation, about a yakuza guy recruiting a teenage choir member to teach him how to sing. It's not BL but it's also not not BL, or something. I ended up watching the short anime version afterward and while it does some things different, they're both really good.

Heavy Metal L-Gaim (Box Set 1) - L-Gaim is getting a domestic release (or just has) so I wanted to watch this ancient bootleg set and see if I actually liked it enough to get the proper version. Unfortunately the translation on this is pretty poor and I'm not sure how I feel about the story. There are a lot of interesting things but also a lot that... eh. But absolute banger of an OP, if nothing else. I do have the second set but it's vanished from the pile by the TV so ???

Carole & Tuesday - since I picked up the fancy box set, I wanted to do a quick disc check and this is always so, so good. I don't think I've ever actually put this show away because I always want to watch it again. Fabulous music, fabulous everything.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm taking search offline sometime today to upgrade the server to a new instance type. It should be down for a day or so -- sorry for the inconvenience. If you're curious, the existing search machine is over 10 years old and was starting to accumulate a decade of cruft...!

Also, apparently these older machines cost more than twice what the newer ones cost, on top of being slower. Trying to save a bit of maintenance and cost, and hopefully a Wednesday is okay!

Edited: The other cool thing is that this also means that the search index will be effectively realtime afterwards... no more waiting a few minutes for the indexer to catch new content.
