Inferior nasal conchae

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Inferior nasal concha)

The inferior nasal conchae (inferior turbinated bone or inferior turbinal/turbinate) is a bone inside the nose. There are three of them inside your nose. The inferior nasal conchae help warm, clean, and moisten the air before it reaches the lungs. They are covered with a mucous membrane that traps dust and other small particles.

It goes along the side wall of the nasal cavity. It is a lamina of spongy bone, curled upon itself like a scroll, (turbinate meaning inverted cone).

The inferior nasal conchae can become swollen because of allergies, infections, or other irritation. This can make it difficult to breathe through the nose. If medicines do not help, surgery may be used to make them smaller.[1]
