Mods are celebrated rather than looked down uppon in this game.
The base game is good but modding it makes it even better.

More importantly, modding in a single player game is all about making the experience better for yourself.
Some might want more content, others might go for quality of life or even mods that make some things easier, and all of it is fine.

I have never understood the idea of putting down people that use mods in single player games, it doesn't affect the people in question in any way.
most mods i see people use make the game look better, if its one of those, make sure your computer can handle it
Its a single player game. What you do for your own experience is yours. Your play doesn't affect anyone else in any way. The only thing that some mods do is keep you from learning some of the harder stuff on your own.
It could possibly be a good idea to not use them starting out just because if you're having trouble with something you can get help more reliably since not everyone will be using mods and especially not the same mods as you. It probably would be fine either way though just so long as you don't go crazy with the mods at first.

Install CKAN and go wild (just make sure you dont fill up your hard drive)
ive herd of CKAN, ive never rlly tryed to install mods tho
Mod hate is for other games (mainly ones like Minecraft) or ones made by Bethesda in the last 10 years where you have to pay for them. KSP modding is different, it’s great and honestly you kind of need to for the best experience.

Or… don’t worry about your hard drive and by new ones because you DO need those 5 copies of KSP each with 200-300 mods in them. Seriously ksp is basically equal to my entire steam library in terms of space used up.
With KSP it's kinda like Skyrim, there's a massive modding community & one of the appeals of buying the game is that you can mod it easily. I think the only hate I've seen is some people do not like CKAN as a mod manager.
Get CKAN. It makes mods foolproof once installed.

It would be best to just get visual mods at first. Things like EVE, Scatterer, and Waterfall make a big difference in looks without being too heavy on the system.

Then get the KSP Community Fixes. This makes KSP run better than stock and can not be recommended enough.
Ckan is a great mod loader. Most mods are on it, but for some you have to manually install them. that is Easy to do aswell, but Ckan makes it trivial. This sentence is linked to the download for it. [github.com] Ckan is Free and all the mods in Ckan are free. There is literally No Downside to Ckan. You can find one of the countless tutorials on installing it, and you could watch a video showing some mods or find a modpack so you don't have to do all the work to find good mods.

Also CKAN is mostly virus free, I can’t speak for all mods as I haven’t played all of them but I have never gotten a virus from any mod on ckan.
