when does this game become fun
please don't flame me out too bad i'm writing this out of pure frustration
I'm told this game is peak and i've believed it for years but it's unironically the least fun I've ever had playing a video game and that's saying a lot. The camera turns itself without my input and takes forever to correct, parrying works 30% of the time at best, and hearing the same death messages over and over makes me want to punch a hole through my monitor. i've tried to play this game exactly three times and every time has gone the same: start playing -> rip and tear (very fun) -> encounter something which requires parrying -> die forty times because hitting the parry button doesn't work half the time -> rage quit
is there some "trick" i'm not getting or did I just waste thirty dollars on a game I'll never enjoy just because the soundtrack's good. this is infuriating. I just wanted to be a cyborg ninja man. now i'll never learn why memes are the dna of the soul because to get to that part I have to magically stop a robot dog from shoving a chainsaw down my throat with noting but a sword that doesn't do what i tell it to. Screw this I'll just go back to my high reflexes build in Cyberpunk. chrissake.

Make sure you know how to parry? Push the thumb stick toward the threat and push attack. You also have to time it right.
If you're using keyboard. Tap the move button in the direction of the attack and use light attack right after. Basically pressing it at the same time.
If the parrying works 30% of the time as you say, you're either not doing it properly, your controller (I don't know how the game plays on a keyboard so I have no opinion on that) is broken, or both.
To learn, play on the easiest difficulty so you don't die so quickly and so often. Keep in mind difficulty levels affect parry window. Parrying requires directional input. Some attacks cannot be parried.

Also, reload a checkpoint before you're about to die if the death screen annoys you.

If you're using a keyboard, that sounds like your problem tbh.

I use keyboard and I can consistently parry.

Nano machines, son.
Your fun and liking for the game is subjective.

What is not subjective and is pretty clear though, is that you lack the brain and the finger coordination to properly play the game.

Maybe refund or gift me some of the games you are bad at so that I can show you how you properly play them.

For real. Putting aside the fact that the camera sometimes doesn't work properly, it seems like there's a serious skill issue on OP's part.

oh yeah definitely. This is entirely a failure on my part. I just got really fed up with it and made this post in a fit of rage. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts; that goes for anyone else who might read this reply. i really don't need advice, i just need to get better. Maybe someday I'll make a followup post laughing at my past self. More likely I'll just forget about this whole thing.

I first approached MGR a few years ago and was foaming at the mouth while fighting Monsoon on Normal. After struggling for a while, I got so pissed off that I uninstalled.

A few months ago I decided to try again. I bought the game on Steam, and something just clicked. I even got 100% completion.

The thing with MGR is that if you can't master the parry mechanic, there's no fun to be had. You could technically rely on Defensive Offense instead, but that won't work in the long run.

My point is that maybe you should try the game again after taking a longer break, like I did.

I really don't recall the game being that difficult. I do remember having to retry some of the boss fights like Monsoon, but imagine if the game was easy, it wouldn't be fun at all?

For someone not familiar with hack and slash genre the game can be difficult. Before giving Revengeance another shot, I played a lot of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta on Xbox, so I guess picking MGR again was easier after experiencing more complex combat systems.
I started with NieR Automata before this and a had a blast with MGR. Probably the best action game I´ve ever played.
