Please fix the 4K resolution issues. Everything was fine until Bethesda touched it.

To be clear, this isn't an attack - just an observation. Right now, the map won't scroll to the right because 4K support is broken. Bethesda isn't the only developer doing this, either. Developers keep taking away features from games that used to work completely fine and not just 4K (2160p). Look at what happened with Nvidia 3D Vision, or games that needlessly require standalone VR copies.

However, 4K is the big issue for me.

- I do not want borderless windowed mode (what even is the point of that?).

- I do not want 4K with black bars.

- I want true, full-screen 4K (2160p), which used to work perfectly fine.

I've tried every setting. I'm no idiot when it comes to optimizing my hardware and software; I don't have a supercomputer, so I make up for my lack of budget with technical know-how. The only conclusion right now is that the developers messed this up.

I know I don't hold any special weight here - who am I, anyway?
So if you don't actually have a solution to offer, please don't bother replying. Thank you.

Solution:

Install TrueBy9 and then set your ini settings to your desired resolution. Full instructions on the mod page.

seems like the knowhow replacement was a scam, because the game works perfectly fine in 4k.
and as a sidenote: when you use win11 learn to live with boarderless windowed, win11 prefers that and makes games run better than in fullscreen.

I guess it's possible he's playing on the GOG version like me - I have to use Trueby9 to get my game to run in 3440 x 1440 as I'm playing on GOG myself now, and it's an older version that pre-dates the next gen patch.

Borderless windowed is clearly a superior mode in every conceivable way though. I'm 100% with you on that one.
even before the next gen patch 4k was problemfree for me (used a 1070ti sli at that time) the game recogniced the cards and provided the 2160p for them without resistance.
and he laments that a patch makes him unable to use 4k, so that points to him useing the steam version, together with the fact that he has the book icon beside his name.
Never had a problem with any resolution, not even custom resolutions.
Always full screen unless I choose otherwise.
English translation:

"In Windows, HDR only functions properly when the resolution is set to native 4K (2160p). In my opinion, playing in true 4K with HDR active looks as good as ray tracing.

Fallout 4 used to handle this without any issues, but after a recent update, it no longer works correctly. Specifically, when running at 4K, the Pip-Boy map will not scroll to the left at all.

If I drop the resolution down to 1080p, the game scales strangely (it looks overly stretched like a side-scroller), but the Pip-Boy map starts working properly again.

Is anyone else playing on a 43-inch display at 4K (2160p) who can test this and confirm if they are having the same issue?

System Specs: AMD RX 7900 XT / RX 6750 XT (Max Overclock)"

Solution:

Go to the game's executable (Fallout4.exe), right-click / Properties / Compatibility / Change high DPI settings, and check Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: Application.

Ensure HDR is toggled On in Windows Display Settings before launching the game.
wowser now he throw in HDR beside 4k, total different thing, especially because a programm normal must be able to handel HDR itself in the first place, and Gamebrio is much older than that.... heck there are even vulcan useing engines that cant handle HDR...

has to be 4k 2160p for hdr to function in windows . imo hdr in true 4k ,is raytracing.. and fallout 4 use to do that. now it wont and the pip boy map wont scroollllll to left at all..i set to 1080 p looks like a side scroller but pip boy map works as intended,,, so no other on 4k 2160p on 43 to confirm.? amd rx 9070 or amd rtx6750xt oc to max..

So you've edited the INI, installed ultrawide interface/trueby9, and you still have black bars all the time and can't use your map? I'm really confused by all this lol

I suspect he did none of the above.
All I can say is 2160p works just fine for me, as that is a my native resolution of my monitor, And has always worked for me, with no changes needed.

Playing on a Dell 36" curved screen.

And "Yes" that is with HDR.

Sounds to me like either an INI change, or a driver is not working correctly. Make sure your drivers for your video card are correct for the game (the "latest" driver is not always the best) AND for your monitor.
