Need help starting iceborne
Ive just started playing this game a few weeks ago and ive finally reached iceborne. The very first two monsters were completely fine for me, but I was having a lot of trouble with the reskinned monsters after. I figured I needed to make some mr armor out of some of the base game monsters, so I went back and fought some of them. The only monster I was able to kill was a Dodogama, which took about 30 minutes. I was using the bow for him and I had already upgraded to a rarity 9, yet it still felt like I was tickling him with damage. And yes, I was using demon powder and a might seed. What weapons am I supposed to be using? I feel like theres no way hunts are supposed to be lasting 30-40 minutes.

Yes, Master Rank hunts will take that long when you first get to Master Rank. You will not have great weapons, armor sets, nor skills available right away. By the time you get to the end of MR, you will be back to 5 to 15 minute hunt averages again.
Welcome to the game!

Make sure you do the clutch claw tutorial mission.

It'll help your damage capabilities quite a lot.

Also there are certain combo(-extenders) for every weapon that make using the claw much more intuitive and fluid.

You'll get there.

Have fun hunting!
My biggest challenge of Iceborne was, when I faced Viper Tobi Kadachi with defender armors and weapon.

If you are unsure about the progress, you can always go back to the base game content, and one spoiler I highly recommend you to pay attention;

GET TEMPORAL and ROCKSTEADY MANTLES before too late. Why I use the term too late, one NPC will be missing for obtaining one of the mantles when you will face Barioth.
What I love about Iceborne is that it teaches players to come prepared instead of just facetanking. For viper, bring poison resistance and less importantly paralysis resistance to counter it. Without poison he's not as much of a treat. For nightshade, make sure to bring sleep resistance and use flash pods to bring him down but MAKE SURE to space them out because if you spam them he'll gain a resistance and become immune to flash pods. So use them when it is flying and only after like 2-3 minutes have passed since you used the last one. You can also bring him down with pods by flinch shotting the head if it's not enraged, saving a flash pod.

Get your temporal and rocksteady mantle as those will allow you to facetank the beggining of the fights by tenderizing / flinch shotting without issue.

in the beginning, or rather at your progression point, they absolutely are. that's the nature of the game. take your time to upgrade your gear (decorations are super important as well), and the killtimes will go down. until the next progress monster comes around.

That's right Iceborne is not made for tourists and babies who only play FS games !

On that note, OP, try to get Weakness exploit to level 3 and crit eye to level 7. That'll boost your damage immenssely, trust me. You will cut your hunting time by at least 15 to 20 minutes.
Bow main? What playstyle are you using? Are you spamming Dragon Piecer? Do you see orange damage numbers? Or grey? Are you matching monster's elemental weakness?

I dont spam dragon piercer, I go for orange damage numbers (essentially targeting wounded parts). I haven't looked much into elemental weakness to be honest...

30 minute hunts means you're damage is pitiful. 20 minute hunts mean you're wasting time somewhere.

I think the issue was crit boost. Actually, it seems that was the entire issue was my crits. I'm doing good now.
