Ultrapool is a great roguelike with a lot of interesting ball combinations - even different strategies within ball sets. It's a roguelike which really rewards experimentation - some balls you may think don't have much use can end up creating crazy satisfying builds that will result in chaotic ball explosions or massive scores.

The sound design is excellent and the identity between the different ball sets is really impressive. The difficulty of the "all nighter" mode is a real challenge - sometimes marred by bad RNG with whatever cubes you get (I feel like getting an early patchwork cube if using a low ball count can ruin you due to poor bad luck) but there is a real sense of reward in beating it.

Overall it's a great and very addicting game that has me saying "one more game" over and over, and I hope to see it expanded!

A fantastic game to play (albeit requiring the use of unofficial patches) in 2026, I can only imagine what it felt like in 2004. Is it perfect? Not at all - it's still quite janky and the last act of the game is certainly a dip in quality, but for me it didn't detract from the pure fun factor of the game.

Immersing yourself in a small slice of the World of Darkness, VTMB provides a great backdrop and cast of characters with interesting personalities, clashing ego's and muddied motivations. Like many RPGs of it's type, the highlights are often found in the side quests, of which there are plenty enough to allow for a 2nd playthrough - both to pick up any quests you missed or to change your decisions to discover different outcomes.

The RPG system itself is generally self explanatory but often broken at times (the sneak stat was completely overpowered for me - meaning my fist throwing Brujah often found it easier to quietly assassinate enemies rather than charge in with a violent frenzy. I believe various patch options balance these broken stats out to some extent, giving another reason for a 2nd playthrough. Also, I made the mistake of having a more "generalised" build meaning by the latter half of the game, none of my social stats were high enough for the unique interactions, so I suggest on focusing on one or two max.

I found that the character models - although strange looking at times- held up quite well in a weird way. You get what you get with a 2004 source engine game but the game oozes character. The sound design and music also create atmospheres that genuinely creeped me out at times which was only bolstered by the great writing and worldbuilding.

If you enjoy games like Oblivion or Fallout New Vegas, definitely try this game. If you aren't a fan of old-game jank, or are likely to get tilted due to annoying level and boss designs (in the last 1/3 of the game), then keep that in mind, but I think it's worth playing if you want to experience a gem from PC gaming history.

I loved the first game, and the second builds upon it perfectly. I just completed my first playthrough which took me about two hours and it blew me away; in fact it was almost like an interactive movie in some senses.

The best advice I have for this game is to keep the music that you are sent playing in the background: really immerse yourself in game as much as possible as it is what made the experience even more amazing for me.

Definitely worth the purchase, I hope we can expect another game soon, perhaps set in 2011-2013.
