The game play is great, but people are probably better off waiting until the game has seen a couple more years of development. It's been six months since the last update, an update which failed to address some of the core issues and bugs the game has right now. The upcoming update will probably under deliver as well. Development is super slow going, and meanwhile you'll be left wanting for long periods of time.

As a long time fan of Silent Hunter, this game brings back fond memories. The co-op mechanic, however, brings a new and interesting feel to the game which is both challenging and fun. Keep in mind that Wolfpack is, first and foremost, a simulator. Do not expect this game to hold your hand. A manual is provided in game, but expect the first 5-10 hours of you playing the game to involve a sharp learning curve.

As of right now (Release day) the game is pretty bare bones. It only has a mission generator, but the gameplay mechanics are strong enough to support this lack of a campaign. Keep in mind that the game is in alpha, and that many features are planned for the future.

I would not recommend you purchase this game unless you A) Have 2-4 friends also interesting in buying it, or B) Can tolerate using text chat with random players (No VOIP at time of release). However, there are lots of other people looking for crews on the Steam forums, and the Wolfpack Discord also has people looking to play.

Wolfpack has lots of potential, and I recommend it to anybody who enjoys the Silent Hunter series, or who enjoys intensive co-op games.
