There's been a lot of controversy around this game, but having delved deep into the workings, I can confidently say, the majority is either hyperbole or outright lies. When directly compared to Evolved, while it is unfortunate the game could not maintain the price tag of free it had initially set out to have, the developers have clearly made sure to make up for that fact by fully delivering on the original intent-a remaster. It is the near perfect definition of a remaster as such, with it only lacking a few creature TLCs to truly finish it off, beyond the content they are adding back in. Overhauled maps, redone AI, improved animations, incredible graphics, more story content, and passion given form is but the start of what Wildcard has done, and it amazes me how much I keep discovering on any one map. In defiant opposition to most AAA games out there, the development team has continuously delayed their own release dates just to make sure a map DLC, even an entirely free one, is polished off and made exceptional. Optimization, while not the best in the world, is surprisingly exceptional, and even hardware not intended to run the game can have it flit along with decent FPS. Console commands, and care for one's own computer, is all that is required to have the game run with more demanding graphics, and the old load times of Evolved are gone, with a connection to a server being established in seconds even with gigabytes of mods being attached. It is also worth mentioning that, while established in Evolved, both Evolved and Ascended rise beyond merely being survival-crafting games with FPS mechanics. Though originally born in the era of such games, it has carved out a unique position with actual progression, bosses to fight, a storyline to follow, and objectives building atop each other in a natural fashion that keeps one pushed forward. In doing so, it dodges one of the greatest issues such games (including larger ones like Minecraft) suffer-aimlessness. Within Ark, there is always a grander goal to work towards to, and a myriad of steps to take towards such a goal, with the progression itself feeling genuinely rewarding.

The only controversy I agree with is two, possibly three, points. The first is the monetization of tames. Though almost certainly a publisher decision, it still is a line that should not have been crossed-having creatures appear in the game regardless of DLC ownership, only for them to not be tameable or meaningfully interacted with while still being able to attack you is simply poor practice. The second is the allowance of mods to be monetized. With mods now being handled by an in-game manager, mod creators are allowed to attach price tags onto their mods, or even a portion of a mod. Though such a matter is entirely in the hands of mod creators, it still incentivizes trying to snatch money from others inside of the community, with there also being a bleed-off of mod makers freely utilizing AI generation for the sake of content (a practice that the community does not push back against nearly enough). The third controversy is the community itself. As mentioned, there is frequent hyperbole, outright lies, or people simply refusing to put in any effort towards an issue they are responsible for themselves. To top it off, despite their voices being loud, these people usually only interact with the game at a surface level, further cementing an unwarranted negative opinion that can be difficult to get past for a newcomer. It is a painful "community", though it is the main reason why I write this review-I hope someone interested can spot this through the negative haze, and see what good the game has to offer!

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise? No. thought not, It's No story the jedi would tell you. It's a sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the sith. He was so powerful, Yet so wise. He could use the force to influence the medi chlorians to create, Life. He had such a knowledge of the Dark side, He could even keep the ones he cared about, From dying. He could actually, Save the ones he cared about from death? The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. Well what happened to him? Darth Plagueis became so powerful that the only thing he feared was losing his power, Which eventually of course he did. Unfortunately, He taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic, He could save others from death, But not himself. ls it possible to learn this power? Not from a jedi.
