This might honestly be the peak of gaming history which will never get beaten by anything else.
Sandfall nailed literally everything, story is deep but beautiful, music and graphics are is perfect harmony and gameplay fits into this equation perfectly.

After the credits started rolling I found myself sitting for solid 10 minutes just taking my time knowing I was lucky to be able to play this masterpiece.

Recommended? Ehh… depends how much you like your wallet.

WoT used to feel like a strategy game where patience and skill mattered. Lately (probly since like covid times) it feels like it’s heading full-speed down the Lootbox Highway with a trunk full of microtransactions rattling around. New events, “special” chests, premium passes inside premium passes… it’s like the game saw mobile gacha systems and said, “Yes please, give me ALL of that!” and they still found a way to add more.

Progression used to be slow but satisfying. Now it’s more like: grind forever or open your wallet and skip the line. And the balance? Let’s just say premium tanks seem to get more love than the tech tree — like the devs are as horny for monetization as a teenager before his first date.

The core is still fun: tanks feel great, the maps are solid, and those clutch moments are awesome. But it’s hard to enjoy the battlefield when every menu screen is trying to sell you a new “limited-time” deal.

If you’re new: expect a good game wrapped in a casino lobby.
If you’re returning: prepare for nostalgia mixed with a creeping urge to check your bank account.

Early Access Review
Game itself is ok but keep playing the browser version, Steam release is purely a subscribtion grab, not worth it.

Edit 1st May 2025..
You know what.. I still stand by the fact the release was rushed however.. a lot of the things are now fixed, the game is still fun and.. which is probably the most crucial thing about any online game.. when you're playing it with someone else you enjoy your time with, it doesn't matter how the game feels.
On this day a year ago I was fortunate enough to que with someone who's changed my life, who I am now fortunate to call my best friend so.. I guess Overwatch 2 is saved now :)

The original review...

Feel free to love the game, but please.. do not spend a penny on it, if you ever played Overwatch 1 you know how amazing that game was and how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ you have to feel ever since they decided to „upgrade“ our experience with this sequel.

What I see as main issues of the current state of Overwatch

Lootboxes vs Season pass

Lootboxes have been hated by gamers for a long time so naturally, when I learned that Overwatch will have them, I was sceptical. I can not remember if beta had them, I looked up my old pre-release screenshots and I could not see anyone wearing anything but the base skins so I will assume they only released it when the game came out.
That being said... Overwatch was completely different to what other companies did with loot boxes. Sure, you could buy them, but it was not needed. If you were playing the game, you were getting lootboxes left and right. Duplicates would give you credits and in 2017 Uncle Jeff gave us a pretty good feature, less duplicates!
It's as if Blizzard cared about their players. It was such a good feature and probably the only time where my collection was filling faster than Bobby Kottick’s pockets. In a few months I was getting currency for duplicates again, but it did not matter, at least I had enough of it to buy whatever skins I wanted when they came out. What a user, or rather... player-friendly feature, right?
So how does Season pass compare to loot boxes? If I only had to use one word, it would be “crummy”. I only purchased the very first season pass, which I did not even finish because, let be honest, it takes a quite a long time. What did I get from that season pass? Few lines on heroes I don’t like, Kiriko, which is honestly the only reason why I got the pass to begin with and some other stuff I didn’t even notice. It just didn’t feel rewarding and I’m not sure why. Perhaps it was because I no longer had to patiently wait for that box to open, perhaps I was just expecting more.
I have one big advantage as an old player though, I have 20 thousand credits from the previous game. That is enough for me to get a few awesome skins that I want. How long will it take to a new player, however? No worries, just open your wallet and pay, easy, right? This is why I am personally saying that old system was better, it was less predatory, it was rewarding, and it was fun!
Where did I get to this conclusion? I recently met a new friend while playing Quick play. We started playing competitive together, but we also played Mystery heroes. It is incredibly easy to spot players who just started playing Overwatch 2 as they have only the basic skins. My friend suddenly said “OMG, do you have legendary skin for like every hero?” I replied... “Yes, not the newest ones tho, didn’t bother with season pass.” That that is what hit me, when I started playing Overwatch I got some decent skins within the first month. Not legendary of course, but it was something to customize my character with. My friend on the other hand, does not have this experience. She either has to buy the Season pass if there is some particular skins that she likes or… well… what is really the other option? Grind the silver coins for years until you have enough to buy that one you so desperately want? That is not the experience I came to OW2 for.

Newly introduced characters put behind a paywall

This is, in my opinion, one of the worst decisions of this game. To put a new hero behind a paywall or some sort of levelling system is ultimately nothing new. One of the games that Overwatch is compared to is Valorant. This comparison, however, completely misses one crucial part. Valorant and Overwatch are not the same game. In Overwatch, you are playing a hero that has abilities that you kill your enemies with, but in Valorant – you buy guns that are the main source of kills. Everyone in Valorant has access to any weapon they desire. That is not the case in Overwatch, as no heroes (excluding abilities like wall-climbing that Shimada brothers and Kiroko use), can access main character spells of other heroes. This fundamental difference is very often omitted from game comparisons.
So, when it comes to new hero being introduced to the game it takes you a long time to unlock. During that time, you cannot play this hero, which could sometimes put your team in disadvantage. Some heroes just counter others, that was, is, and always be the case. We are talking about a PvP game, where hero picks directly influence your team’s chances to kill enemy players and therefore team’s chances to win the game. Isn’t this regarded as pay to win?

Why is OW2 even a thing?

Why a sequel – “Sequels make us nervous.”
– Jeff Kaplan, 2k19
If I look at the current state of Overwatch, I understand why it would make them feel nervous.

You know what the biggest L for us was? When they announced OW2 I think it is fair to say that most of us got the impression that OW2 would just be sort of an independent upgrade that people could get but they also wouldn’t necessarily have to. This, however, would make no sense because the games have totally different monetization. That would be a big NO NO in today’s money hungry Blizzard approach.
It is so bizarre to me that they can create a beloved franchise, treat it and the community with all the good things and once someone up the ladder realised… oh, this franchise makes a lot of money already, what could we do to minimize the fun the people have for free and add some stuff nobody asked for just to piss off the community for the same of having much better annual sales? Who cares that people will be angry and 2 years later the interest will tank lol. As the old goblin says, Time is money, ain’t it Blizzard?

What can we do

Truthfully? Not much. I personally do not buy any season passes; I know that I will miss out on some awesome rewards, but it is a small price for trying to have some sort of an impact.
I would however let Jeff Kaplan make a point in all of this:
“You all know what the videogame industry does. You are the most powerful people in the videogame industry, not us. You have more of a say than anybody else.”

My take on this is… let your voice be heard. If you don’t like how the game changed or is about to change - go and complain. We are the ones who keep the game “alive”. I certainly do want Overwatch and its universe to live and prosper, do you?
Do I believe that the community will eventually be heard, and get some sort of… Overwatch Classic? I doubt that. Activision Blizzard has at this point reached its rock bottom and they are no different to the likes of Electronic Arts and such. I used to be Blizzard fanboy, they made good games, they had good services, and its team was always incredibly engaged in trying to deliver the games for the players, not for the investors or whoever they are trying to satisfy with the annual results. This is, unfortunately, no longer the case, all we have right now are sad memories of how good they used to treat its players. One can only hope that something will eventually happen.

Take care everyone and remember…
The world could always use more heroes.

I've played this game on PS3, PS4 and PS5, and I love this game. That being said.. much like Horizon: Zero Dawn the initial release is pretty rough, I might be getting 60 fps on 3080 but the frametimes are all over the place.
After the HBO show, I thought that optimization will be Naughty Dog's top priority given that the show was so critically acclaimed, yet it seems not enough care was given to such a thought.
Will see how the situation will evolve in the upcoming weeks/months, right now I think you should keep your hard-earned 60€ and put it into something more meaningful.

And to those who'd be asking - I ran it at 2K on High preset with motion blur turned off, no DLSS, I also tried it on Steamdeck, it too ran kinda sluggish even with FSR.

As a fan of Watch Dogs franchise I have to say this is a pretty good release as far as the story goes. I still would say I enjoyed the original much more as Aiden's story was pretty deep, that being said, Legion didn't disapppoint me.
Plenty of content to do and items to collect.

Is the game worth it's 60€ price? I'd say no, wait for sale and get it for 20-30€, that's a pretty fair price for what you're getting.

All and all, if you want to experience the franchise I'd recommend playing the original Watch Dogs first, you might skip WD2, the story isn't really that interesting compared to WD:Legion.

PS: Screw Ubisoft for not including the achievements for Steam release, you're literally Albion...
